To the Editor:
I wanted to bring this to
your attention in case you
haven’t heard. John
Humphrey of “John’s Mill’s
son Norman has been in a
most severe bum accident a
couple of weeks ago, burn
ing both legs his right arm
and his face.
He is in Grady’s bum unit
and has had a couple of sur
geries and very likely will
have many more. Still unable
to walk. On August 2,
William, his brother, had a
metal barb stuck in his right
eye. They are looking at
$300K + medical bills.
There is a fundraiser on
GoFundMe by Norman’s
girlfriend, Brittany Marino
(see link at bottom. They are
seeking $30,000 there and
had only $2,600 as of Tues
day morning).
Just wanted to bring this
to your attention because
John’s Mill was a real attrac
tion in our community when
I moved here and he became
a true friend. I can’t believe
this has happened ....

To the Editor:
Are the officials who are
in charge of keeping the
roadways clear of mud, wet
dust, etc. asleep? Would they
please answer this question:
Why do they permit Huber
and Imerys to deposit their
white dust mixed with water
onto the roadway of Hwy. 53
East? When you go through
this are it gets inside wheel
wells, underneath vehicles
and is almost impossible to
remove. This is not allowed
if you cut timber or any type
of land construction which
would drag red dust/ mud
into roadways. Care is taken
to prevent this. Evidently
white dust must be exempt.

To the Editor:
As more and more people
move to rural Pickens
County, there is a tendency
to bring big government
ideas with them. This is time
to remember the adage that
he who governs least, gov
erns best.
There is a highly devel
oped body of common and
statutory law giving rights to
people injured by dangerous
animals. There is no need to
enable government to get
bigger over this issue. When
it comes to loose and vicious
animals, the people have,
and should continue, to man
age themselves.
Let's avoid the sin of
rushing to a big government
solution where none is
needed. Government power,
once granted, is never
yielded. Let Atlanta impose
its big government oppres
sion on its people. We in
Pickens can manage for our
selves as we always have
done.

To the Editor:
I was walking on our
street and noticed water
seeping into the street. I went
by the water department and
reported a possible leak.
They had someone out that
very afternoon and the next
morning a crew came out
and fixed the leak.
I admit that I rarely con
sider how much work has to
be done to keep the water
flowing but I’ll never forget
that crew working all day in
90 plus degrees and high hu
midity. So, thanks to the
folks at the water department
for your excellent attention
to the needs of our water
supply. And I thank you for
being so prompt. You proba
bly saved a lot of wasted
water.

A man called for a deputy
because his ex-girlfriend

conditions to stay away from
her. The deputy got there and
asked the ex-girlfriend why
she was there and she said
she came by to pick up
clothes. The deputy told her
the man had bond conditions
and could not be around her.
The deputy spoke to the man
that called and asked him
why the ex-girlfriend was
there. The man told the
deputy that the ex-girlfriend
said she wanted to get back
with him, but he called 911
because he did not want to
get in trouble for violating
the bond conditions.

A citizen brought in a cell

camera at the gate. That same
day of the report, the woman
said her daughter saw a black
truck pull up to the gate and
then it left. The daughter
went to check the gate and

on the mechanical box. The
woman nor her daughter

this or why they would do
this.

promised him a truck but she
had sold the truck. The for
mer employee sent this text
message, “My God sits high
and looks low. He avenges

man that wanted to make a
report about something being
thrown at his car. The man
said he was driving and was
making a turn onto a side
road when a car drove by him
and threw something out the
window at his car. The man
did not see what the car
looked like and he had no
idea what was thrown. There
was minor damage done to
the car and the man needed a
report for his insurance.

finding drugs
A deputy was on patrol
when he spotted a car that
had no insurance. The deputy
stopped the car and one of
the occupants told the deputy
he was on probation for drug
possession. The deputy asked
if there were drugs in the car
and there were. The deputy
found a baggie of psilocybin
mushrooms, a baggie of
psilocybin mushroom candy,
and a baggie of marijuana.
Criminal trespass
A man called for a deputy
because he needed to have
his soon-to-be ex-wife crim
inally trespassed from his
new residence. The man said
he had began renting this
new home a week ago. The
man said he and his soon-to-
be ex-wife were getting a di
vorce and would be going to
court later in the week. The
man said the soon-to-be ex-
wife came to his yard and
was following him around
yelling and he was concerned
she would hit him. The man
told her to leave but she did
not. The deputy spoke to the
soon-to-be ex-wife and she
said the man had left her
abruptly with no explanation
and she came to talk to him
about their relationship, but
he refused to talk to her and
she became angry. The soon
-to-be ex-wife was told he
did not wish to talk to her
outside of the courtroom.
