Betty Ferrell
Betty Jean Poole Ferrell,
89, of Jasper, Georgia,
passed away Wednesday,
August 9, 2023 at her home.
She was bom July 28, 1934
to Dolph and Rora Poole in
Pickens County. Mrs. Fer
rell was a member of the
First Baptist Church of
Jasper and a member of the
Lions Club.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ray Ferrell of Jasper;
children, Pam and Richard Kirkland, Lavonne and Mark
Doty; grandchildren, Brooke Kendall, Jennifer and Paul
Bradley, Allison and Clint Saggus; great-grandchildren,
Bryson and Campbell Thurmond, McKenzie Thurmond,
Baylee Thurmond, Merritt Thurmond, Luke Kendall, Alexis
Kendall, Grace Saggus, Georgia Saggus; great-great grand
daughter, Kaden Thurmond; sister, Hazel Mullinax; and
brother, Charlie Poole. Several nieces, nephews, and other
family members also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 12,
2023 at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Reverend Pre
ston Jones and Reverend Lamar Long officiating. Interment
followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper.

Betty J. Silvers, 91, of
Talking Rock, Georgia,
passed away Friday, August
11, 2023 at Piedmont
Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her
son and daughter-in-law,
Ricky and Debbie Silvers of
Jasper; granddaughter,
Sarah and Brady West of El-
lijay; great-grandchildren, Halle Mae West and Ty West.
Nieces and nephews also survive.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar "Doc"
Silvers; daughter, Birma Silvers; son, Patrick Silvers and
daughter, Wanda Silvers.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 2
p.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Greg
Long and Rev. Wallace Parks officiating. The interment fol
lowed in the Ball Creek Baptist Church Cemetery: 11340
Highway 136 West; Talking Rock, GA 30175.
Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral
Home and Crematory.
Lynn James
Lynn Fleming James, 75,
of Marble Hill, Georgia,
passed away Tuesday, Au
gust 8, 2023 at her home.
She was bom June 25, 1948
to Hugh and Sylvene Flem
ing in Anderson, South Car
olina.
Lynn is survived by her
husband, Jerry James;
daughter and son-in-law,
Jenny and Ron Fellenbaum;
son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Michelle James; grand
children, Justin and Emily Fellenbaum, Timothy and Madi
son James, Colby James and Chloe Walker, Lilly James;
mother, Sylvene Fleming; brother, Terry and Diane Fleming;
sisters, Susan and Bascom Tippins, Anita and the late Steve
Gross; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lois Ridings, Eliza
and Larry Ray, and Phillip James. A large host of nieces,
nephews, and friends also survive.
Lynn was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Fleming.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August
10, 2023 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev
erend Alan Day and Reverend Keith Bames officiating. In
terment followed in the Long Swamp Baptist Church
Cemetery at 746 Long Swamp Church Road; Jasper, GA
30143.

nity in Jasper, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 5,
2023.
Memorial service was held Tuesday, August 8 at Holy
Family Episcopal Church. Care and Trust was placed with In

teers of Good Samaritan
Wellness Center held a suc
cessful can drive for CARES,
a local food bank that pro
vides food to those in need in
Pickens County. The drive
was held over the month of
July, and the center collected
4,488 items weighing 3,491
pounds.

The cans of food will be
distributed to CARES clients
through its consistent weekly
distribution times from 9 a.m.
to 12 p.m. on Monday,
Wednesday and Fridays.
CARES is a non-profit or
ganization that has been serv
ing those in need in Pickens
County for over 25 years
with supplemental food and
emergency financial help.

NOTICE
Lumber Company Road will be closed on Thursday, August 17, 2023, starting at 9AM
for approximately 3 hours between Palace Way and Twin Mountain Lake Drive to allow
new park equipment to be unloaded at the Lumber Company Road entrance to Doris
Wigington Park. No through traffic will be permitted; however, the City will work with
residents within the road closure to help them get in and out of this work zone safely.
