Plans Revised for County
Water System
An organizational meet
ing was held Wednesday
night to discuss plans for a
county water system. Repre
sentatives from the different
areas of the county were
present. Several months ago
work was started on the idea
of building a county water
system, however, the plans
made at the time were re
jected by the Federal Gov
ernment as qualifying for a
loan or grant. The plans have
since been revised and it is
understood that they now are
acceptable for a loan through
the Farmers Home Adminis
tration, an agency of the Fed
eral Government. The
proposed water system
would serve over a thousand
customers in Pickens County.
Rains Break Drought
The drought in Pickens
County has been relived dur
ing the past several days with
a little more than an inch of
rain. According to Mr.
Howard Dilbeck, 3.08 inches
of rain has fallen in April.
This totals 12.42 inches for
the four months of the year
which is still about 2.57
inches short of normal rain
fall for this period.
Board of Education
At the regular meeting of
the Board of Education Tues
day night, a delegation from
the Marble Hill school area
came seeking information
concerning the rumors that
the schools were soon to be
consolidated. Chairman of
the Board, Howell Cham
pion, explained that although
consolidation of the smaller
schools in the county is a fu
ture certainty, no immediate
plans have been made. He
told the group that because of
the continuing decrease in
enrollment of the smaller
schools, they will eventually
not meet desired standards
and, at this time, consolida
tion is the most logical means
of solving the problems of
the smaller schools. But he
said no consolidation will
take place until adequate fa
cilities have been provided.

• Ethical, honest, and sound judgement
Please make your vote count! Vote for John Foust for Post 5 Jasper City
Council, on November 7th, 2023, at the Jasper Municipal Court room 55
GG Lovell St. Suite C Jasper Ga 30143
Early voting has started at the Pickens Recreation Center, located at 1329
Camp Road, Jasper, Ga 30143 Monday through Friday Sam to 5pm
through Nov 3rd.
My name is
Bethsadia
Fernandez, and I
am seeking
your vote on
Nov. 7, 2023, for
the Post 5 City
Council Seat for the
City of Jasper.
I am running for city council to save our city. I believe in
keeping Jasper a small, mountain town. Well loved, well
maintained and inviting for all to come and stop by and enjoy
its quaintness.
I do not want to see Jasper turn into the next Holly Springs. I
think it's important to stand up for what you believe in. Our
current city council has been in office for years, they pride
themselves on that....and I personally do not agree with the
direction and leadership that is coming from their years of
experience.
As was printed in the paper, our current city council lost almost
$500,000 just with our sanitation alone. I don't know about
you, but if I lost $500,000 at my current job, I would be fired.
The city manager paid a scammer $150,000 instead of
Cherokee Co Water Authority for our water, this was also
shared with us in the paper, back in May. None of the city
council wanted to comment. That's $650,000 of our tax
dollars, gone, wasted, poorly managed. Enough is enough!!
I may not know the ins and outs of how to run a city, but I do
know how to run a business. I've been in charge of over $12
million dollars worth of business, had 100's of direct report
employee's and can figure out how to make the most of money
and resources. I am a boots on the ground, let's figure it out &
make it happen, type of gal. Anyone that knows me, can attest
to that.
I have a servant's heart, if elected as your newest city council
member, I will keep open communication, diligently work to
save our city and still be able to smile and give you a hug in
Ingles, because I have nothing to be ashamed of. I will always
make the best & most ethical and moral decisions for you, our
people of Jasper.
