Residents of Bent Tree
packed the house for an orig
inal dinner theater production
Mama and Papa at the
Gates, which was written by
Bent Tree resident Reid Con
rad.
Conrad, a veteran play
wright, director, actor and ed
ucator, premiered the play in
the gated community on Oct.
22 and 23. It received a re
soundingly positive response
from the audience, and in
cluded a cast of seasoned ac
tors who delivered delightful
and oftentimes captivating
performances.
Mama and Papa at the
Gates follows a couple, Papa,
played by Conrad, and
Mama, played by Bent Tree
resident September Hoeler,
as they navigate their later
years. The couple is visited
by a mischievous triad who
provide council along the
way, and also a brilliant
comedic balance to the more
serious elements in the play.
The performance was in
three acts, each of which co
incided with the three-course
meals served in Club Tama
rack.
Bent Tree Arts Council
President Andy Kidd said the
mission of the group, which
was formed in 2021, is to
support a wide variety of arts
in the community. Kidd also
produced Mama and Papa at
the Gates and provided musi
cal arrangement.
Upcoming Bent Tree Arts
Council events include a
murder mystery, dulcimers
concert, Christmas concerts,
and Valentine’s dance.

City of Jasper fire crews
console two children who
were left in a vehicle after a
woman passed out in the
driver’s seat of a parked car.

A woman was arrested in
the Walmart parking lot after
passing out drunk in her car
with two small children in
side.
The initial call came in
from someone who saw the
woman in the car, slumped
in the seat, on Wednesday,
Oct. 25 around 6 p.m.
Jasper’s Assistant Police
Chief Mike Davis said they
responded as though it was a
medical call. When officers
arrived it was determined the
woman had been under the
influence and passed out
with the vehicle still run
ning.
According to the incident
report, responding officers
had to bang on the window
several times and grab and
shake the vehicle before the
woman woke up. Officers
found a bottle of Fireball
whiskey in the woman’s
hand.
Two children were in the
backseat “crying and
screaming,” the report states.
The officer unbuckled the
first child and found he and
a second child were covered
in urine and their seats were
soiled.
Officers found another
bottle of Fireball in the Nis
san Maxima, “and the vehi
cle was filthy and dirty, and
officers could not find any
diapers.”
Emergency crews pur
chased the children new
clothes from Walmart.
Crews also consoled the
children with a stuffed teddy
bear and by attempting to
distract them from the event.
The 911 call resulted in a
strong emergency presence,
with city of Jasper police
and fire responding, as well
as Georgia State Patrol.
A GSP trooper placed the
26-year-old Alpharetta
woman under arrest for DUI.
The children’s stepfather
took the children into his
possession.
Why am I seeking a position
on the council?
Because I do not think the present
group has done a good job at all. I
see plenty of "we are going to do
this" in social media posts, but little
evidence that anything is being
done now. Oh great: we are going
to paint the lampposts a different
color that don't need painting
anyway and charge you, the
taxpayers, thousands of dollars. As
we are getting close to Christmas
my reply is: "Bah humbug!" The
ponds, lakes and parks around the
city are a disgrace. Some of the
roads with their potholes are
downright dangerous to motorists -
broken suspensions - and
pedestrians. And now there is this
gazillion-dollar concept of a 950-
seat amphitheater behind First
Baptist Church that will take you
more time to reach and leave than
any performance there.
If you want to see your money
wasted time and again, do NOT vote
for me. If you do not care that, when
you write to council members, your
emails are not answered, do NOT
vote for me. If you want to stop all
that, DO vote for me!
Bless You.
