Motorcyclist pursued,
threatens to shoot deputies
Details have emerged
about a Dec. 4 chase
during
which
Lamar
depu
ties
pur
sued a
motor
cyclist
who,
point,
allegedly threatened to
open fire on them.
Sgt. Wayman Henson
was patrolling north
bound on Ga. Hwy. 7
when he saw the driver
of a dirt bike run the stop
sign at McLean Road and
shoot across the four
lane without stopping for
traffic. Henson pursued
the bike onto Trice Road
and witnessed the cyclist
weaving over the road
way and driving in the
wrong lane.
Henson activated his
emergency equipment
but the cyclist only
looked back, sped up and
drove into a pasture. He
then laid the bike down
and fled on foot toward
Skinners Bypass, discard
ing his book bag, jacket
and helmet. Henson
pursued on foot.
Near a home at 408
Skinners Bypass, the sus
pect turned toward Hen
son, reached behind his
back toward his waist
band and threatened to
shoot Henson. Henson
then drew his service
weapon and leveled it on
the subject who began to
run once again.
Henson warned other
responding units about
the threat but the radio
traffic did not get out. LT.
Michael Newman spotted
the subject on Trice Road
and he again reached be
hind his back and threat
ened, “1 will kill you”.
Henson ran up beside
Newman and Newman
then tasered the cyclist
who went down.
He was identified as
Brandon Cole Edge, 26,
109 Main St., Lot F in
Milner. A search of his
person turned up a set of
vice grip pliers and a bag
of meth but no weapon.
The motorcycle was
seized.
A check revealed Edge
had outstanding war
rants in both Henry and
Spalding counties for
damage to property and
selling meth. He went to
the Lamar jail charged
with failure to stop at a
stop sign, failure to yield,
failure to maintain lane,
reckless driving, driv
ing on the wrong side of
the road, obstruction,
terroristic threats and
acts, suspended license,
possession of meth and
fleeing and attempting to
elude.
