LCSO INCIDENT REPORT SUMMARY
Compiled from a summary of incident reports
completed by Lamar deputies during the period Dec.
23-29, 2020.
On Dec. 4, Dep. Barclay Banta worked a child cus
tody dispute at a construction site across from 107
High Falls Park Road.
On Dec. 25, Dep. William Holt met with a man at
the sheriff’s office regarding another child custody
issue.
On Dec. 25, Dep. Anthony Redding was dispatched
to the intersection of Jackson and Howard roads
where he found a maroon Mustang in the ditch aban
doned. The car was towed.
On Dec. 16, Dep. Holt was dispatched to a home
at 104 Oak Haven Lane on a damage to property call.
Conterrious Davis reported someone had keyed the
word ‘bitch’ into his trunk area and done other dam
age. He suspected his child’s mother. A neighbor was
checking security camera video to see if it provided
any clues.
On Dec. 26, Dep. Holt was dispatched to 139
Savannah Way where a woman reported a white work
truck had hit her car. She said the driver of the truck
got out, looked at the damage and then fled. She was
encouraged to get the tag number if she saw the
truck again.
On Dec. 27, Dep. Holt was dispatched to a home at
365 Grove Street along with Sgt. Wayman Henson and
Dep. Ashley Johnson and BPD officer Michael Blan
kenship regarding a fight. Holt encountered 45-year-
old Benjamin L. Bowles in the yard stumbling around
and smelling of alcohol. They also located Darrien
Bowles who was on the ground with a large lacera
tion to his left bicep.
Benjamin Bowles reported he was working on a
car when he and Darrien Bowles got into a fight. He
claimed he was knocked down twice before using a
box cutter on Darrien Bowles. Benjamin Bowles went
to jail charged with aggravated assault. Sgt. Henson
put a tourniquet around Darrien Bowles’ arm and he
was rushed to Upson Regional Medical Center. The
box cutter was located and placed into evidence.
On Dec. 26, Dep. Johnson was dispatched to 330
Yatesville Road where Robert Bankston reported five
dogs attacked and killed one of his calves. Bankston
shot two of the five dogs which were black in color. A
search for the other three dogs turned up nothing.
On Dec. 27, Dep. Johnson met with Athena Col
lins who reported her son, Roberto Rodriguez, was
attacked by a pit bull near 330 Freeman Road. Rodri
guez was treated at a local hospital for a bite on his
wrist. Animal control was called in.
On Dec. 27, at noon, Dep. Holt was dispatched
to a home at 131 Bulldog Court regarding a domes
tic disturbance. Sgt. Henson and Dep. Johnson also
responded. Holt arrived to find three Monroe County
deputies had 35-year-old Jessica L. Ozburn in custody
in the back of a patrol car.
Celinda Varnell reported she was doing laundry
when she saw Ozburn fighting with her husband near
a shop. Ozburn later came into the home, cornered
Varnell in the laundry room, striking her in the face
and pulling out a handful of her hair which was found
in the yard.
Ozburn’s husband came in and pulled her off
Varnell. Ozburn was taken to jail and charged with
battery and terroristic threats and acts. At about 4:45
p.m., Ozburn was found hanging in her cell. She was
