SPORTS Trojans lauded at football awards event WALTER GEIGER news@barnesville.com The Trojan football coaching staff held its an nual awards presentation Sunday afternoon at the Fine Arts Center. Players lauded were: Willie Hamm Perseverance Award: Hunter Treadwell and Ju’Corie Zellner. Kenny Green Trojan Pride Award: CJ Allen and Christian Bostic. Iron Trojan Award: Braydon Pines and Jaden Banks. Scout Team Players of the Year: Ty Head, Kale Bryan and Amon John son. 1st Team All-Region: Allen, Banks and Josh Moore. 2nd Team All-Region: Devin Bateman, Connor Vaughn, Daniel Dinkins, Zellner, Pines and Dona- van Sanford. Honorable Men tion All-Region: Bostic, Treadwell, Danny Chap pell and Josh Wright. LC basketball back on track after COVID break The LC basketball teams got back into ac tion Friday after a break due to COV- 1D-19 concerns, hosting Mon- ticello Friday and Washington County Satur day. The Trojans (3-13, 1-5) fell to Monticello 5340 then got walloped by WACO’s Golden Hawks 71-19. The Lady Trojans (13- 4, 6-1) routed Monticello 74-18 and then won a 57-56 thriller over WACO 57-56 in a critical region game. Scoring and statistics for these games were not available at press time Monday. LC is scheduled to travel to Dodge County tonight and host Bleckley County Friday. Check with the school on game days for possible changes. Soccer season kicks off tonight The LC varsity soccer teams open play tonight when they travel to Locust Grove for a scrimmage. The Trojans play at 5:30 p.m. with the girls game to follow at 7:30 p.m. The annual Trojan Cup gets underway Monday, Feb. 1 when LC battles Monticello. LC takes on Trinity Christian on Feb. 2. Lady Trojans soccer rosters have been posted The rosters for the Lady Trojan soccer pro gram were announced Friday after a week of tryouts. These rosters do not reflect the pos sible addition of players who were out last week due to COVID or who are currently playing other sports. Tryouts will be offered to those so affected. Varsity: Brittany Arreola, Tamya Blasingame, Alaina Cato, Kaylah Grammer, Lily Harris, Paige Mayfield, Mack enzie Sherrit, Madison Smith, Savannah Taylor and Iniyah Walker. Junior Varsity: All JV players are potential crossovers to play varsity. Varisty/JV designations may change during the course of the season.
