DEATH NOTICES Obituaries are published as received Rose Atkinson Mrs. Rose Emogene Mitchell Atkinson, age 94 of Bamesville, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital. Mrs. Atkinson was born on Monday, September 20, 1926 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Ernest E. Mitch ell and the late Addie Mae Spillers Mitchell. In addi tion to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Milledge Edward Atkinson; grandson, James Eric Hawkins; brothers, Max Mitchell, Gene Mitchell, John T. Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell; sister, Delores For tin. Rose was retired from Carter’s as a Seamstress. Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her children, Virginia Johnson, Michael and Jean Sewell, Michelle and Jimmy Hawkins; grandchildren, John Sewell, Wesley Sewell, Millie Miller; three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen McCall; sev eral nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Rose Atkinson was held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at The Lighthouse Church of Barnesville with Reverend John Sewell officiating. Interment followed in the Atkinson Family Cemetery. Friends visited the family prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Wanda Hammock Mrs. Wanda Bell Hammock, age 73, of Barnesville, died Monday, February 1, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hammock was born on March 9, 1947 in Signal Mountain, TN to the late Virgil Lee Bell and the late Thelma McMaree Bell. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death be her sisters, Joy Bell, Edith Plumlee, Ruby Reddick, brothers, Virgil Lee Bell Jr, Carlos Bell. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Hammock of Barnesville, sons, Greg (Mitzi) Ham mock of Barnesville, Michael Hammock of Barnes ville, daughter, Terri (George) Moseley of Barnesville, grandchildren, Elizabeth Hammock, Natalie Ham mock, Samantha Hammock, Levi Moseley, Logan Moseley, sisters, Shirley Fifield of McDonough, Dotty Bell of LaGrange, and brother, Delany Bell of Atlanta. Wanda was a devoted stay at home mom and grandma, devoted Christian who worked in the Sun day School Office at First Baptist Church in Barnes ville for over 25 years. Wanda was a former secretary for 15 years at Barnesville Church of the Nazarene and former part-time cashier at Ruth’s Cafe in Barnes ville. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them, lunch outings on Sundays after church with her granddaughters, picking her grandsons up from school and making them snacks, birthday out ings every year on their birthday. Wanda loved work ing outside in her flower beds, mowing grass and taking care of her pet chicken (Chicken Little). She loved sunflowers, going to the beach, spending time with family and friends. Wanda was always doing something for someone else and expected nothing in return. She had a huge heart that touched all who knew her and she will be missed by all. Private graveside services were held on Thurs day, February 4, 2021. The family received friends on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 the family asked that people attending the visitation practice social distancing and wear masks. Wesley Lynch Mr. Wesley “Bubba” Lamar Lynch, age 78, of Milner, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021. Wesley was born on Saturday, November 28, 1942 in Jackson, Georgia to the late Clomer Lynch and Annie Sherrell Lynch. Along with his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy Lynch and Brantley Lynch. He was a truck driver for Ameri- Gas. Wesley enjoyed cooking out, there were many fish fries, working in his yard, and loved spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him PaPa Bubba. He was an ordained minister and spent time reading his bible. Wesley attended Milner Baptist Church. Wesley is survived by his wife of 23 years, Debo rah Lynch; children, Carla & Dicky Carreker, Lisa & Ricky Cumbie, Jeremy & Holly Lynch; grandchildren, Jared & Bailey Wilson, Katie & Matt McDaniel, Jus tin & Jayla Hodges, Evan & Ashley Hodges, Sydney Lynch, Flannery Lynch; great-grandchildren, Harland, Brylee, Brayden, Brenden, Braxden, Hayden, Isabella; siblings, Jimmy Lynch; four additional brothers, three additional sisters; several nieces and nephews and special cousins, Wilma & Gary Burns. David was born on Tuesday, March 31, 1942 in Milner, Georgia to the late Euell Franklin Niblett and the late Ludie Mae Akins Niblett. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Price; sisters, Betty Tidwell, Margie Niblett, Janie Darden; brother, James Niblett. David loved and enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable and flower garden ing and his pets. David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Ann Niblett; daughter, Rhonda Richardson; son, David K. Niblett (Amanda); granddaughters, Brandy Roden, Jessica Richardson; great-grandchildren, Em ily Roden, Jacob Roden, Journee Watson; brothers, Howard Niblett (Mary Ann), Kelly Niblett, Charles Niblett (Betty Jo), sisters, Mildred Sims (Larry), Mar tha Gant; many nieces and nephews. Hillery McBroom Mr. Hillery Thomas McBroom, age 70 of Barnes ville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Upson Regional Hospital. Mr. McBroom was born in Griffin, Georgia on Thursday, August 24, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Vaughn and Virginia Anne McBroom, as well as his first wife, Brenda “Dianne” Farmer McBroom. Hillery was a long time, self- employed business owner and most recently, the Allstate Agent in Barnesville. Hillery was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Hillery graduated from Gordon Military High School in 1968, then attended Gordon College. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Bonnie McBroom; children, Todd McBroom, Brian Abernathy (Shelley), Amy Matthews (Brent). He was the proud grandfather, known as Pop, of six grandsons, Parker McBroom, Hayes McBroom, Austin Adamson, Alex Abernathy, Ashton Abernathy and Butler Matthews; one granddaughter, Bonnie Kathryn Matthews. Sur vivors also include his sister, Donna Ellis (Ronnie); brother, Bernie McBroom (Patsy); as well as several nephews. No formal visitation was held at the funeral home, however, those desiring to pay their respects were encouraged to sign the guest book during regular business hours. A graveside funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Garth Forster officiating. Hillery loved watching all of his grandchil dren play sports. Frank Ogletree, Jr. Mr. Frank Matthews Ogletree, Jr. of Barnesville, passed away at his residence on Monday, February 1, 2021. He was 90 years old. Mr. Ogletree was born in Bethesda, Maryland on July 8, 1930 to Frank Matthews Ogletree, Sr. And Francis Fussell Ogletree. Not long after his birth, his family moved back to his father’s hometown of Barnesville. Mr. Ogletree is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Carolyn Joan Garrett Ogletree. Mr. Ogletree graduated from Gordon Military in 1947. After working at a family business in Barnes ville, Mr. Ogletree embarked on a lengthy career with the state of Georgia that spanned 5 decades. As an examiner with the Industrial Loan Division under the Office of Insurance Commissioner, Mr. Ogletree trav eled the southern portion of Georgia for many years. After serving in the examiner’s capacity, he was pro moted to the Director of the Industrial Loan Division, where he remained until he retired in December 2010 after 49 1/2 years of service. An avid hunter, Mr. Ogletree could be found on the dove field every fall season, either at Cedar Ridge Farms (his family’s farm) or down in Redbone assist ing the Moye family. Mr. Ogletree was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Timo thy Class. Mr. Ogletree is survived by his son, Matt (Beth), and his two grandsons, Bo and Payne, all of Barnes ville and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service for Mr. Frank Ogletree, Jr., was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 in Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Garth Forster officiating. Agnes Smith Agnes (Aggie) was born June 15, 1933 in Barnes ville, Georgia to Walter and Vannie Martin. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at her home on February 1, 2021. Agnes was preceded in death, brothers, Eugene Martin, Walter Martin, Janie Martin, J.H. Martin and George Martin, and sisters, Helen Woodard, Frances Hutto, Lou Piper. Agnes is survived by husband Broa- dus L. Smith, sister Annette Andrews, children Patricia Ann Whatley and her husband Gerald M. Whatley, Janice Leigh Casto, and her husband Steve Casto, Donna Smith and Greg Jackson. Grandchildren Kelly King Widner and her husband Russell Widner, Thomas Wylly King and Chloe Myers, Kristin Whatley and her husband Wesley Hearn, great grandchild Nora Wren Widner. As well as brother-in-law Edward Piper and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two very special ladies, Tammy Bunn and Melissa Waltman, who loved and cared for her and to whom we will be eternally grateful. Agnes graduated from Milner High School in 1951 where she excelled playing basketball and softball. Her basketball team went to State Tournament her last two years in school. She was an avid sports fan of the University of Georgia with her favorite coaches being Vince Dooley and Andy Landers. Agnes married her high school sweetheart Broa- dus L. Smith on August 4, 1955. She had been a member of the First United Meth odist Church of Griffin, Georgia since 1974. She stayed home raising her three children and after that she had her lawn service of which she was extremely proud and worked for many customers. She was an excellent wife and mother to her family. She will remain in our hearts forever. A graveside service was held Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Barnes ville. Dr. John Maddux officiated. He was born October 16, 1937 in Spalding County, Georgia. He was a gradu ate of Milner High School, Milner GA. He worked in sales for Oscar Meyer Company. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hugh and Polly Vining and a brother, Leroy Vining. He is survived by his wife, Nora Jean Oxford Vin ing, his son Randy Vining, his daughter Fay McDan iel, two grandchildren, Georgia Hooks and Matthew Joseph Hill. He is also survived by two stepchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and three great grandchil dren. A memorial will be set at a later date. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements. Noel Howell, Jr. Mr. Noel Jackson “Jack” Howell, Jr., 82, of Thomas- ton, died Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Harborview Health Care. Mr. Howell was born in Thomaston on Novem ber 5, 1938, a son of the late Noel Jackson Howell, Sr., and Ruby Beeland Howell. He was employed by the Coca Cola Company for 42 years and at his retirement was a district manager. He was also the owner and operator of the Howell’s Sunshine Laundromat and the Big Chic in Griffin, until his retirement in 2019. Mr. Howell was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a guide during quail season at the Red Oak Plantation in Gay for many years. He en joyed passing on his passion for hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. Mr. Howell was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and served the church as a Deacon. Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty Joyce Collins Howell; three daughters, Cindy Howell (Wade) Marshall, Becky Howell Montgomery and Leisa Howell (James) Collins; four grandchildren, Brynn (Jamie) Gibson, Ryan (Christy) Watkins, Geoff (Katie) Dean and Jake (Rachel) Scott; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Bruce Howell and his sister, Sandra Rose Howell.
