DEATH NOTICES Obituaries are published as received Eloise Burge Mrs. Eloise Evelyn Burge, age 81, of Barnesville, passed away February 8, 2021, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. She was born to the late Otto Collett and Naomi Phares Collett in Elkins, West Virginia on August 3, 1939. Eloise was a member of Rock Springs Church in Milner and Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Barnes ville. As the wife of a Methodist minister, Eloise served the church in many roles over the years includ ing pianist, secretary, choir mem ber, and soloist. Lovingly known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren, Eloise loved spending time with her family and was passionate about reading, studying, and living God’s Word. Eloise will be remembered for her welcoming warmth; she never met a stranger. Her door was always open with a seat at her table and a large glass of sweet tea. Eloise loved all flowers, whether it was a picture, fresh cut, or growing in her yard. She had a smile that would light up a room and will be missed by all who loved her. Though she has now taken her place in the heavenly choir, her family will carry forward her legacy of faith and love in their hearts until they meet again. In addition to her parents, Eloise was preceded in death by her brother, David Collett, sister, Helen Col lett, and brother-in-law, Richard Daetwyler. She is survived by her husband Rev. Lawrence Burge of 59 years of marriage, four (4) sons and their wives, Ed Burge, Barnesville, GA, Greg and Gay Ann Burge, Carrollton, GA, Steve and Debbie Burge, Griffin, GA, and Joe and Tammy Burge, Dawsonville, GA; sisters and a brother-in-law: Edie Daetwyler, Blue Ridge, GA, Debbie and Ronald Carder, Chesapeake, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Neal and Darlene Col lett, Elkins WVA, Frank and Carol Collett, Elkins, WVA, Gloria Ware Collett, WVA; 18 plus grandchildren, a multitude of great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, February 20, 2021, 1:00-2:00 p.m., at the Moody Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon, GA. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with, Rev. Richard Winn, Pastor Mike Burge and Chaplain Jen nifer James officiating. Paul Coleman Mr. Paul Lester Coleman, age 66 passed away un expectedly at his home in Barnesville, GA on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Mr. Coleman was born in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, June 7, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. Coleman and Mildred M. Cole man. Paul was a veteran of the Unit ed States Army and a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division. He worked over 40 years as a Sales Engi neer for Industrial Compressors. He made an impact on all that he met with his contagious smile, helpful attitude and unyielding commitment. In short, he was “Perfectly Paul.” Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 15 years, Dona Coleman; his children and their spouses, Vanessa and Richard Cranford, Christi and Kevin Worely, Anthony and Katie Green; his grandchildren, Austin, Maria and Coleman Conner, Denver, Ryan, Col lin, Dona-Rosalia, Anthony, Caitlin, Hazel and Hamp ton; his great-grandchildren Holdyn, Lawson and Lila; his sister Glenda Stiles and her children, Kim, Teresa, and Karla and families; his brother, Thomas and Pa tricia Coleman and their children Thomas and Allison and families. A funeral service for Mr. Paul Lester Coleman was held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in Breedlove Memorial Chapel located at Williams-West- bury Funeral Home. Ricky Corley Ricky Charles Corley of Barnesville, Ga. our son, father, and grandad went home to be with the Lord February 9, 2021. He was born April 22, 1954. He is predeceased by his father John C. Corley and brother Gary Corley. He is survived by his mom Leugin Davis Corley; significant other Bonnie Jo Digby, his son Dustin Corley, wife Camila, and grandson Kel- ton; Sheena Corley and grandson John; uncles Pete McCain, Donald Corley and wife Wynette, Kenneth Corley and wife Laverne. Ricky worked alongside his parents John (J.C) and Leugin Corley at their family business Corley Tire Company for many years. He then worked for Cronic Chevrolet for 14 years. He was a long-time member of First Methodist Church of Barnesville. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was one of the most kind and helpful men. Friends were cordially invited to a visita tion with the family from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service. Mr. Martin was born on Sunday, January 25, 1953 to Helen Bethune Martin and the late Elijah Jackson Martin, Jr. He was formerly employed as an Assistant Manager with the Coca-Cola Company, as well as the Country Kitchen with his family and Onsite RIS. He enjoyed visiting the mountains; was a member of Milner United Methodist Church. Mr. Martin is survived by Samatha Hofer and her daughters, Katie and Kristian and her grandson, Hunter; his daughter, Jennifer Combs; son, Jamie Martin; grandson, Blake Martin; mother, Helen Bet hune Martin, siblings, Jack and Beverly Martin, Alice and Bob Beauchamp, Mitch Martin, Anita and Bruce Carter; several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service for Mr. Thomas Martin was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Milner Baptist Church Cemetery with Rever end Chip Garrison officiating. Margretta Sargent Mrs. Margretta Sargent, age 90, of Milner, GA, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020, at home. Mrs. Sargent was born to the late J. and M. Harris of Newport News, VA. Mrs. Sargent is preceded in death by her husband: Robert; her daughter: Robin; and her siblings: William, Euzelia, Ruth, Lonnie, Fletcher, and Nita. Mrs. Sargent is survived by her children: Valerie, Robert, Lyn, and Desiree; grandchildren: Edward, Timothy and Atlee and great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Robin, Hezekiah, and Tabitha; nephews and nieces: William, Sheila, Annette and Lawrence. A Zoom funeral service, officiated by Jehovah’s Witnesses, was held January 16, 2021. The body was prepared for cremation by Georgia Cremation, LLC. Mrs. Sargent is interned beside her husband, at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY. 2021-2022 Pre-K registration Pre-K packets for Lamar County Primary School will be available starting February 16 at the primary school. The packets will be in a bin in front of the Lamar Coun ty Primary School at 154 Burnette Rd., Barnesville. Registration will begin at the primary school on Monday, March 8 and ev ery Monday thereafter in March (March 8, March 15, March 22, and March 29 only). Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. on March 29, 2021. At that time, if we do not have 132 students, it will become a first come, first served registration. We will be checking temperatures at the door. All parents are required to wear a mask. Due to COV1D-19, we are only allowing the parent into starts today the building to register the child. Please leave all children at home. If you are sick with any cold symptoms, please wait until the next Monday. Elaine Smith-Woods devoted her life to God, family, and education. In 1971, after graduating from the Lamar County School System, she at tended Gordon Military College. Later, she trans ferred to West Georgia College earning both B.S. and M.Ed. degrees. As a student at West Georgia, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. With formal training in place, her first teaching position began in Lamar County. With over a 36 year time span that ended in 2012, she was employed by Lamar County, Spalding County, Rockdale County, and DeKalb County School Districts. During this time, she married her college sweetheart- An drew Woods, Jr. and had two daughters- Andrea and Amber- who always helped with school proj ects and activities for her students. Her family supported the household while she attended Troy State University for her Educational Specialist Degree. Serving as an ed ucator for her included being involved in extra curricular clubs such as: Student Council, Science Olympiad, Science Fair Coordinator, Robotics, and International Stud ies. She also served as grade level chairman and communicated policy guidelines between school administration and teachers. Michael Anthony Smith graduated from Lamar County Compre hensive High School in 1978. After graduating from high school and attending Gordon Junior College, he enlisted in the Air Force in October of 1982. While in service he attended Air Leader ship School and Noncom missioned Officer Leader ship School. During his service, he was stationed in many locations. He lived in England and Belgium for several years respectively. Smitty’s professionalism and knowledge were invalu able as he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. One of his last assign ments was with the NATO staff at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium. His last as signment in the Air Force was as Superintendent, Command Separations and Retirement, Head quarters Air Combat Command. He was the mastermind behind the deployment of the AP system that was adopted by the Air Force as part of Virtual Out-Processing. Additionally, he orches trated the most demand ing and complex Stop Loss Program in Air Com bat Command history. He was recognized with many honors including the 1996 Headquarters United States Air Force Europe’s Joint Support Squadron’s Noncommis sioned Officer of the Year, SHAPE’S 1996 Noncom missioned Officer of the year and Headquarters United States Air Force Europe’s Mission Sup port Squadron 1997 Non commissioned Officer of the Year. After service, he was an independent contractor for the U.S. government. He is retired and has returned to live in Barnesville. He has one daughter, Ashley, who lives in Virginia. Service and teaching was the familial mantra, and it has been their honor and pleasure to engage with thousands of individuals while con tinuing the Walton-Smith Family Legacy.
