COVID-19:
Rate of new cases slows
Lamar County had
1,249 confirmed cases of
COVID-19 as of the Feb.
28 update from DPH.
That number is up from
1,223 cases Feb. 21. La
mar has had 99 corona-
virus related hospitaliza
tions.
Lamar recorded its
38th COVID-19 death last
week, that of a 74-year-
old white female. As of
Monday, DPH reported
5,120 Lamar countians
had received the CO
VID-19 vaccine.
As of Monday, sheriff
Brad White was tracking
39 positive cases at 36
local residences.

Pre-K registration
begins March 8
Pre-K packets are
available in the bin
in front of the Lamar
County Primary School
at 154 Burnette Rd.
Registration will begin
at the primary school on
Monday, March 8 and ev
ery Monday thereafter in
March. Registration will
begin at 8 a.m. and end at
4 p.m. If there are not 132
students, it will become a
first come. If 132 stu
dents are registered then
it will not be necessary
to have the lottery to
draw numbers.
The lottery, if nec
essary, will be held
Wednesday, April 14 at
1:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts
Building.
Temperatures will be
checked at the door. All
parents are required to
wear a mask. Due to CO
VID-19, only the parent is
allowed into the building
to register their child.
Please leave all children
at home.
Children must turn
four years old on or
before September 1, 2021
to be age-eligible for the
program.

Parker completes FROG Week
Garrett Parker of Barnesville was one of 48 cadets
who began their time as University of North Georgia
(UNG) cadets with Freshman Recruit Orientation
Group (FROG) Week during Jan. 5-10.
FROG Week, which is held before the beginning of
spring semester and fall semester at UNG, marks the
transition from civilians to cadets for these incoming
freshmen.
Liu graduates from Georgia Tech
The Georgia Institute of Technology presented
degrees to around 3,800 undergraduate and graduate
students who earned their degrees during the Fall
2020 semester, including one from Pike County. The
students recognized during the Institute’s 259th Com
mencement exercises at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Yuli
Liu of Barnesville graduated with a Master of Science
degree in Computer Science.

Notice is being given that a Public Hearing will be
held on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at
the Town of Aldora Office, located at 285 Indian
Trail, Barnesville, GA 30204. The purpose of this
hearing is to inform citizens of the availability of the
final quarterly report, to review project accomplish
ments, and to receive citizens’ comments.
All citizens are invited to attend this hearing to

Lucille Kendall
Mrs. Lucille Sutton Kendall, age 98 of Barnesville,
GA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2,
2021.
Mrs. Kendall was born August 1, 1922 to the late
Elliott Sutton and Clara McGhee Sutton. She was also
preceded in death by her husband
Mr. Dorothus “Rock” Kendall; sisters,
Roberta Sutton, Louise Howard and
Jimmy Lou Sutton; brothers, Nal Sut
ton, James Sutton, B.J. Sutton; sons,
Benny Kendall and Robert Kendall
and a granddaughter, Yolanda Foster.
She is survived by her daughter
Jewell Kendall Foster Moore; three
grandchildren, Jarrard Kendall,
Cameon Steward and May Johnson; great grandson,
Tabius Foster; one sister, Mollie Lewis and a host of
nieces, nephews, church members and friends.
Graveside services were held on February 5, 2021
at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor
James C. Marable, eulogist.

The Technical College System of Georgia s Office of Adult Education
is requesting grant applications from eligible organizations interested
in offering Integrated English Literacy & Civics Education Services.
These Federal Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act grant funds
are used to provide services to eligible individuals who are adult
(16+) English language learners, including professionals with
