Barnesville council sets rental rates for Women’s Clubhouse Tuesday, April 13,2021 Heralti <©a?£tte 3A Meth bust at local tire shop THE HERALD GAZETTE/WALTER GEIGER Lamar deputies raided the Trojan Tire shop April 6 and arrested proprietor Rick Moss (right). Moss was charged with possession of meth, possession of marijuana and operat ing a business without a license. He was later released on a $21,500 bond. The man on the left was detained, questioned and later released as was a woman who was at the shop at the time of the raid. The shop is adjacent to the Circle K store and investi gators said the raid was connected to one the previous week on Stafford Avenue. Henry Abreu, who was arrested in that bust, remains hospitalized due to complications from ingest ing meth. Upson Regional Medical Center declined to list his condition. KAY S. PEDROTTI kayspedrotti@gmail.com In a relative short April meeting, Barnes- ville city council mem bers okayed a list of rental rates which will be in effect on comple tion of the renovation of the Women’s Clubhouse on Stafford Avenue. Interim city manager Tim Turner said the rates are in keeping with those charged for use of the Civic Center. These are approved rates: en tire top floor (including kitchen), $500 for 4-hour block; Front room/back room $250 for 4-hour block; back room includ ing deck, $250 for 4-hour block; additional hours, $25 per; kitchen rental, $30; alcohol permit, $25; off-duty Barnesville po lice officer, $30 per hour, 4-hour minimum; deposit - no alcohol served, $100; deposit if alcohol offered, $130. Turner said deposits are refundable if the building and grounds are left clean and undam aged by users. The council also ap proved the addition of a “memory page” to the minutes book in honor of the late David K. Rose. Rose served the city in several posi tions for 38 years before his passing on January 9 of this year. Dorothy Carter brought attention to a second letter sent to the city personnel with con cerns about programs for the 2,700 school- age children who have previously been offered after-school programs or other events at the E.R Roberts Center. Her letter also brought atten tion to trash problems, alleged gang-type graf fiti on stop signs espe cially on Taylor Street, and asked for a plea to residents about trash in ditches and along resi dential streets. Richard Miller asked for a response from the city to his written re quest for a permit related to home additions and repairs. Announcements were made about Lamar Arts Kids Camps: Art Camp is July 5-9, and Theatre Camp July 12-16.
