Doyle Ray Bryan
Doyle Ray Bryan, age 88, of Milner, Georgia passed
away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Westbury Medical
Care and Rehab in Jack-
son, Georgia.
Mr. Bryan was born in
Laurens County, Georgia
December 14, 1932. He
was preceded in death
by his parents, Johnny
Oscar and Fannie Lou
Wood Bryan; sisters Lil
lian Bryan Mullis, Vera
Bryan Knight; brothers:
James Bryan, Julian
Bryan, Billy-Fred Bryan,
Donald Bryan and Har
old Bryan.
Doyle retired from Milner Milling formerly known
as Dixie Portland and was a member of Rock Springs
Church in Milner, Georgia. Doyle was a loving hus
band, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His
hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and
doing any outdoor activities. He was an avid fan who
was present at all his children’s, grandchildren’s and
great grandchildren’s sports events. Mr. Bryan always
enjoyed being with people and was known for his
hugs.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Oneita
Lord Bryan, children: Bonnie McBroom (late Hil-
lery), Brenda Bottoms (Jimmy), Erwin Bryan (Pam);
brother Woodie Bryan and sister, Faye Bryan Hud
dleston. He was the grandfather of Brian Abernathy
(Shelley), Amy Matthews (Brent), Todd McBroom,
Luke Bryan (Macy), Logan Bryan and Lane Bryan.
Step grandchildren include James Bottoms (Marissa),
Jeremy Bottoms (Ju) and Josh Bottoms (Jen). Great
grandchildren include: Austin Adamson, Alex Aberna
thy, Ashton Abernathy, Butler Matthews, Bonnie Kate
Matthews, Parker McBroom and Hayes McBroom.
Visitation for Doyle R. Bryan was held Thursday,
April 15, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Rock
Springs Church. Following the visitation, a funeral
service was held at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Dr. Benny
Tate and Reverend David O’Steen officiated. Inter
ment followed at Lamar Memory Gardens.

Jeffrey Keith Morris
Mr. Jeffrey Keith Morris, age 64, of Barnesville,
Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
Mr. Morris was born on Wednesday, September
26th, 1956 in Griffin,
Georgia. He was the son
of John and Bessie Mor
ris, also of Barnesville.
He worked locally in
construction for many
years, building many
homes in the area, and
was also an employee of
Balamo Building Supply
in Barnesville before re
tiring. Keith is preceded
in death by his parents
and sister, Catherine
Morris Taylor.
Keith is survived by two daughters, Mary Beth
Mitchell and Rebecca Lauren Mitchell; son-in-law Jef
frey Allen Mitchell; grandson Preston Thomas Harp;
two granddaughters, Ryleigh Grace Mitchell and Ava
Reese Mitchell, and nephew Brian Klaassen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 755 Commu
nity House Rd., Barnesville, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on
Saturday, April 24.

Jeffrey “Jeff’ Lovejoy
Mr. William Jeffrey “Jeff” Lovejoy, age 54, of Thom-
aston Ga., died Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Upson
Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Lovejoy was born
on September 14, 1966,
in Lamar County, to
the late Larry Lovejoy
and Wanda Pritchett
Shockley. He owned and
operated his own Pest
Control business, and
was a member of Mt.
View Baptist Church. He
served his country in
the U.S. Army. In addi
tion to his father, he is
preceded in death by his
paternal grandmother,
Mary Lovejoy.
Survivors include his mother, Wanda Shockley of
Barnesville; his daughters, Amy (Allen McLaughlin)
Lovejoy of Thomaston, Hope Lovejoy of McDonough;
stepdaughters, Jenna (Brian) Huckaby of Griffin,
Baleigh Burkette of The Rock, GA, and Hannah
Berry of The Rock, GA; stepmother, Sybil Lovejoy
of Thomaston; stepsons, Christopher Williamson
of Manchester, Zach Dawson of The Rock; paternal
grandfather, William Lovejoy of Barnesville; maternal
grandmother, Betty Goddard of Barnesville; brother,
Brian (Heather) Lovejoy of Thomaston; niece, Au
tumn Lovejoy; nephew Austin Lovejoy; sister, Melanie
Johnson of Barnesville; grandchildren, Elizabeth,
Landon, and Bella.
Graveside services were held on Friday, April 16,
2021 at 3:00 p.m from Lamar Memorial Gardens. The
family received friends on Thursday, April 15, 2021
from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

former chancellor
Huckaby has died
Hank Huckaby, former
Chancellor of the Uni
versity System of Geor
gia, died April 14 from
complications of a stroke
he suffered the previous
week. He was 79.
Huckaby was a native
of Spalding County and
served as director of
admissions at Gordon Ju
nior College in the early
1970s. Huckaby served
as state budget director
under Gov. Zell Miller
and as Georgia’s chief
financial officer under
Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Longtime Barnesville
mayor Jimmy Matthews
called Huckaby a ‘Gor
don man’ and praised
his selection as chancel
lor. Matthews predicted
Huckaby would look out
for Gordon and he did.
Huckaby is survived
by his wife Amy, two
children and six grand
children.

ceremony in May
Gordon State College
will hold an in-person
spring commencement
ceremony on Friday, May
14 at Summers Field Park
in Barnesville.
More than 500 sum
mer/fall 2020 and spring
2021 graduates will be
recognized in socially-
distanced ceremonies
beginning at 8:30 a.m.
and continu
ing through 3
p.m.

Justin Gunnels, who is
currently a teacher in
Lamar County and is
earning his doctorate in
education.

President for Academic
Affairs. “Our graduates
have worked very hard
this past year, during un
precedented times, and
deserve to have their
achievement recognized
in person.”
All graduates who
attend in-person should
register through their
graduate registration
portal and will be as
signed a ceremony based
on school once regis
tered.
Every student will
receive four guest tickets
and in accordance with
safety measures, at
tendees must wear face
masks and practice
social-distancing.
The ceremonies
will be moved indoors
if there is inclement
weather and the ceremo
nies will be live streamed
to any overflow facilities.
Boy Scout Troop 38 to hold celebration
The Boy Scout troop 38 turned 75 years old Febru
ary 20, 2021. Though the celebration was postponed
during that time, a new date is planned for Saturday,
June 5 in conjunction with the June Court of Honor
from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Aldora Park. The church
will have the grill from United Bank set up to cook
lunch.
