1B Clip l)pra(& (Sa?Pttf Tuesday, April 20,2021 SPORTS Diamond Trojans fall twice to Mary Persons The LC Diamond Tro jans dropped two games to the Mary Persons Bulldogs last week. Their record is now 5-16 for the season. On Wednes day, LC traveled to MP for a doubleheader and plated two runs in the top of the first inning of game one. The Dogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to a 12-6 win. Trojan pitchers gave up 11 hits. Connor Vaughn paced the LC attack with two hits and two runs batted in. In the nightcap, MP got 10 runs in the bot tom of the third to blow out LC 10-0 via mercy rule. The Tro jans managed only three hits. LC was to host Taylor County Mon day with NE Macon coming to town today. The Trojans travel to Crawford County Wednesday and close out the season Friday at NE Macon. LCMS Trojans lose in title match The LCMS Trojans came out flat and lost 5-0 to Monroe County in the MGMSAL title match at Mary Persons Satur day. They had beaten Monroe twice previ ously and were the #1 seed going into the championship tourney. In the semi final round, Lamar eliminated Upson- Lee 2-0 behind two goals from Caleb Miller. Axel Garcia and Broxton Lanier each had assists for LCMS. There were two regu lar season games last week leading up to the tournament. On Monday, LCMS topped Ft. Valley 6-3. Mill er had three goals while Kaden Carter had two and Lanier added one. Carter, Miller, Jayden Hillman and Gar rison Selph each had assists. On Wednes day, LCMS dis patched Monroe County 4-0. Cart er had two goals while Miller and Tanner Garvin had one each. Miller and Jordan McIntosh had two assists apiece. Miller finished the sea son with 43 goals and 10 assists. He had 63 goals for his middle school ca reer despite his seventh grade year being aborted due to COV1D. The locals fell behind 3-0 but mounted a furious comeback late that fell short in the final minute. Jenny Beverly scored on a penalty kick for LCMS. Ella Bleu Leverett got the other goal for Lamar. Chelsie Roberts had four saves in the net for the Lady Trojans. Two regular season matches were played last week as well as the season wound down. On Monday, Lamar drilled Ft. Valley 9-0. Beverly, Ava Bushby and M’Kenzie Smith had two goals each while Krista Hatfield, Grace Taylor and Ava Lonberg added single scores. On Thursday, Lamar tied Monroe County 0-0. Roberts had four saves for LCMS in that match. Mai Goal keeper, Jackson Callaway, has played a big part in the Lamar County Trojans wins with many goal saves. He is pictured at the game on Tuesday, April 13 against ACE. Trojans crowned champions; host Vidalia in round one Friday The LC Trojans won two games last week and added another victory by forfeit to win the Region 3AA soccer title. They are a #1 seed heading into the playoffs and will play at home for at least the first two rounds of state playoff action. Lamar (11-4-1, 9-1) hosts Vidalia (7-9, 6-6) in round one Friday. First touch is set for 6 p.m. at the LC soccer complex. LC opened play last week with a 3-2 win over ACE on Tuesday. Mason Bushby, Josh Moore and Justin Brannan each had goals for Lamar. Moore had one assist as did Ethan Popham and AJ Haygood. NE Macon forfeited a game set for Wednes day in Macon. That was supposed to be a COV1D make-up match. LC was credited with a 3-0 win. The Trojans closed out the regular season Friday with a 4-0 win over Bleckley County. Mi chael Hernandez, Bran- nan, Popham and Daniel Navarro netted goals for LC while Chip Crawford added two assists. #7 Lady Trojans win region, host playoff Thursday The #7 LC Lady Tro jans got two wins last week, including their second over #8 Bleckley County, to win the Re gion 3AA title and clinch home field advantage for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs. LC (11-3-0, 8-0) hosts unranked Swainsboro (8-9-1, 6-6) in round one Thursday at the LC soc cer complex. First touch is set for 6:30 p.m. The Lady Trojans started last week with a 4-0 win over ACE in a non-region contest. ACE was the 2019 Class A state champion. Alaina Cato and Samiya Smith had two goals each for LC. Cato also had an assist. On Friday, LC clinched the region crown with a 5-1 win over Bleckley County. Cara Bishop, Vanessia Byrd, Maci- Lauren Lanier, Madison Smith and Samiya Smith each had goals for Lamar. Kaylah Grammer and Samiya Smith each had assists.
