1B %\n l)£ralti <©a?£tt£ Tuesday, April 27,2021 Lady Trojans awaken late, notch 4-2 round one victory The #7 LC Lady Tro jans, a #1 seed, turned in a lackluster performance in the first round of the Class AA state soccer playoffs here Thursday before awaken ing from their slumber and topping Swains- boro 4-2. The Lady Trojans found themselves tied 2-2 with the #4 seed and un ranked Tigers with under 10 minutes to play before rallying. Freshman Maci- Lauren Lanier came off the bench, played with energy and sparked the comeback. Lanier had a single goal as did Cara Bishop, Alaina Cato and Samiya Smith. Cato, Smith and Kaylah Grammer had assists. The Lady Trojans host #8 Thomasville (13-3) Wednesday in the Sweet 16 round. First touch is set for 5 p.m. at the LC soccer com plex. Thomas- ville’s Lady Dogs are the #2 seed from Re gion 1AA. Two of their three losses were to #4 Fitzgerald. The other was to Deerfield- Windsor. The winner of Wednes day’s match will move on to the Elite 8 to take on the Bremen-Fannin County winner. Bremen (16-2-0) is ranked #1. Double overtime win sends Trojans to soccer Sweet 16 Ethan Popham scored on a penalty kick as time ran out in the second overtime period here Friday night to give the Lamar County Trojans a hard-earned 3-2 win over the Vidalia Indians in round one of the Class AA state playoffs. Lamar (12- 4-1) will host Fitzgerald (11-6) in the Sweet 16 round here Thursday. First touch is set for 6:30 p.m. at the LC soccer complex. Neither team is ranked. LC is the top seed from Region 3-AA. Fitzgerald is the #2 seed form Region 1-AA. They topped Oglethorpe County 3-1 in round one. Michael Hernandez and Josh Moore each had goals off assists by Justin Brannan in regula tion play Friday. Brannan was fouled in the box in the second over time to set up the winning PK that Popham converted, set ting off a wild celebration. The winner of Thursday’s match will face the Bremen-Model winner in the Elite 8 round May 5. The Bremen boys, like the girls team, are ranked #1. Model is unranked. Fitzgerald beat Dodge County 5-1 Feb. 4. LC split two games with Dodge during the regular season. Lamar won 3-2 to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the Class AA state soccer playoffs. Diamond Trojans win two of three games The LC Diamond Trojans won two of three games last week to close out their season with a 7-17 record. On Tuesday, LC faced NE Macon at Aldora Field, blew the game open with six runs in the third inning and cruised to an 11-1 win. Connor Vaughn went the distance on the mound for Lamar, striking out 10 and scat tering six hits. Vaughn also had two of LC’s three hits as the Trojans took advantage of eight errors by the visitors. Ayden Hollis and Kale Bryan drove in runs for the Trojans. On Wednesday, LC traveled to Crawford County and lost 15-9 to the Eagles in a slugfest which saw each team get 11 hits. Lamar had five errors in the field. Talon Dender paced LC with three hits and two RBls. Johnny Stone added two hits for LC. On Friday, LC topped NE Macon on the road 15-0. Tanner Patterson got the win, striking out 11 and allowing only five hits. Rhett Blount led the LC attack with three hits while driving in three runs. Nathaniel Tidwell also had three hits for La mar while Hutson Traylor and Donavan Sanford had two RBls each.
