Rois Eudonough
Martin
Rois Eudonough Martin, 82, of Radcliff, KY, pre-
rusly of Milner, GA, went to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, May 19, 2021 after
a valiant battle with Parkinson’s
Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
Rois was born on July 28, 1938
in Milner, GA to the late James
Wiley Martin and the late Mary
Elizabeth Shackleford Martin. Af
ter graduating from Middle Geor
gia State University, Rois served
in the United States Air Force. He
also worked as a bookkeeper for General Motors,
Sears and Hartmarx until his retirement.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents;
a previous wife, Rebecca June Fowler Martin; one
brother; James “Jim” Wiley Martin, Jr.; three brothers
in law; Lewis Leon Stith, Willard Larry Stith, Garry
Leo Stith; two sisters in law, Linda Olga Fowler Mar
tin, Emma Frances Stith Marcum; one niece, Amy Re
becca Martin; and one nephew, William Keith Martin.
Survivors include: his wife, Annetta Stith Martin of
Radcliff, KY; two children, Kenny Mattingly (Debra) of
Vine Grove, KY, Tonya Wilbur (Dale) of Radcliff, KY;
two, grandchildren, Jordyn Mattingly of Louisville,
KY, Kiegan Wilbur of Radcliff, KY; a mother in law,
Mrs. Fairy Belle Hammond Fowler of Barnesville, GA;
two brothers in law, Danny Martin of Barnesville, GA,
and Larry Swisher (Mary Lou), of Louisville, KY; five
sisters in law, Willnetta Lewis (Danny) of Sun City
Center, FL, Barbara Martin, of Alpharetta, GA, Virginia
Stith of Kell, 1L, Sonja Stith of Summerville, SC, Grace
Stith of Surfside Beach, SC; a host of nieces, neph
ews, extended family, friends and his little fur babies,
Chloe and Sweetcakes.
A graveside service will be held at Lamar Memory
Garden, Barnesville, GA at a later date.

Edgar Hutchinson
Johnson, III
Edgar Hutchinson Johnson 111, of St. Simons Island,
Georgia, passed away on June 2, 2021. Hutch was
born January 21, 1942 in Atlanta,
GA, the son of Edgar Hutchinson
Johnson, Jr and Mary Smith John
son.
He was a 1960 graduate of
North Fulton High School. While
running varsity track at Florida
State University, he earned a BA
and MA in history. He earned his
PhD at Auburn University in his
tory and earned the Malcolm C. McMillen Award for
outstanding scholarship. Hutch was a professor at
Averett University in Danville, VA and at Gordon State
College in Barnesville, GA. He was named Professor
Emeritus upon his retirement in 2005.
Hutch was not only a scholar and athlete, he was
a mentor to many. He had a positive influence on
students, friends and anyone he met. He was humble,
gracious and had empathy for others. He was a true
Southern gentleman.
While at Averett, Hutch met his wife, Gael Stuart
MacDonald. They were married in Greenwich, CT
in 1971. That year, he introduced Gael to St. Simons
Island where his family had vacationed during his
childhood. He and Gael vacationed there almost
yearly and in 2015 moved permanently to St. Simons.
Hutch was preceded in death by his parents. He
is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gael, his sister,
Judy Highsmith, cousins Susan Sawyer, Helen Tolbert,
Mulkey West all of Atlanta, and Michael West of NYC.
He is also survived by many childhood, college and
career friends as well as many island friends.
The family wishes to thank Strickland, Certain,
Jones and especially Dr. Matthew Certain for his com
passion, care and friendship.
The family wishes to express thanks and apprecia
tion to his BrightStar caregiver Myrtice Marion and
the Hospice of the Golden Isles nurse Richard Dancel
for his professional and timely help.
Hutch expressed wishes that there be no service
and we are going to abide by his wishes. A celebra
tion of life may be planned for a later time.

Georgennie Dumas
Ms. Georgennie Dumas, 73, of 38 Jackson Street
transitioned on Sunday, May 30, 2021, in the Heritage
Inn.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, June
5, 2021, 1 p.m. in the O’Neal Cemetery. Rev. James C.
Marable officiated and visitation was held on Friday,
June 4 from 5-7 p.m.
She is survived by her daughters Ms. Cassandra
Dumas of Barnesville, Ms. Diane Dumas of Woodbury,
Ms. Linda Dumas of Barnesville, Mrs. Jenifer Rogers
of Manchester, a son Mr. Fred Dumas of Barnesville.
10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister-
in-law Ms. Marie Dumas of Atlanta, a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and many dear friends who all will
miss her dearly.
Melanie D. Stafford
Ms. Melanie D. Stafford (SFC Ret.), 62, formerly of
Barnesville transitioned on May 26, 2021, in Atlanta.
Graveside services with military honors were held
Saturday, June 5, 2021, 11 a.m. in the West Mount
Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Eddie F. Collier of
ficiated and visitation was held on Friday, June 4 from
5-7 p.m.
She is the proud mother of two children Mr. An
toine J. Lee of Austell, Ms. Marlena C. Robinson of
Morrow, sisters Mrs. Candace Thomas (Marion) of
Hampton, Ms. Keisha Stafford of Barnesville, niece
Cadalyn Thomas, aunts Alene Rutherford of Forsyth,
Ms. Lucy Mae Moore of Decatur, Ms. Lillie Mae Staf
ford of Barnesville, and a great aunt Ms. Catherine
Walker of Barnesville, a host of other relatives and
many dear friends who all will cherish her memory.
Gordon State students
excel at undergraduate
research symposium
Gordon State Col

the 10th annual Un
dergraduate Research
Symposium, which was
designed to provide GSC
students with the oppor
tunity to express them
selves through research
projects.
There were 11 podium
presentations and two
poster presentations pro
vided by 12 presenters
at this year’s URS. The
presentations ranged
from a new leadership
approach,
protest songs
in cartoons
and anime,
literature,
and Egyp
tology with
a dash of
biology. The
posters fea
tured Arabic
literature and
molecular
biology.

event represents the
extraordinary talent that
we have at Gordon State
College,” said Dr. Kirk A.
Nooks, GSC President.
“These students have
excelled during unprec
edented times and 1 am
thankful we were able to
recognize them.”

LC’s Allen earns UGA offer
After a long break due to COVID-19, the NCAA ban on on-
campus recruiting visits was lifted June 1 and Lamar County
linebacker CJ Allen was among the first wave of recruits to
visit UGA and work out for the coaches. He was rewarded
with a scholarship offer by head coach Kirby Smart.
Allen (6-2, 215 pounds) will be a junior at LC this fall. He
has run 11.18 in the 100 meters. Currently a three-star, Allen’s
star is rising after multiple solid camp performances. He is
being recruited primarily as a linebacker. He is pictured wear
ing #3, the number worn by former UGA stars Roquan Smith
and Todd Gurley, both now in the NFL.

Mr. N.E. Brantley more affectionately known as
Shag, 92, of 1211 McCollum Road transitioned on
Sunday, May 30, 2021, at his residence.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, June 5,
2021, in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.
Shag leaves a wonderful family to cherish his mem
ories including his five children, Olivia “Dale” (Ru
ben) Smith of Conyers, GA, Michael Washington of At
lanta, GA, Nathaniel (Stephanie) Harris, and Deborah
(Leroy) Bundrage of Macon, GA and Jeanette Thur
man of Barnesville, GA; ten grandchildren; eleven
great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Mattie Mae Few and Diane (Maurice)
Holt of Barnesville, GA and Mary Jean (James) Daniel
of Riverdale, GA; daughter-in-law, Susie A. Thurman of
