Man claims he was thrown from moving vehicle
This was the scene June 15 on Sims Street as a host of first responders and law enforcement tried to calm an injured man
who claimed to have been thrown from a moving vehicle. He was uncooperative and had an altered mental status.
Capt. Al Moltrum of the Barnesville Police Department identified the man as Christopher Bailey, 39, of 126 Leprade Dr. in
Griffin. “We don’t have much information. He won’t talk to us,” Moltrum said.

Lamar Republicans turn out in force for state convention
Members of the Lamar
County Republican Party
were out in force at the
state GOP convention
held June 4-5 at Jekyll
Island. Lamar was one
of only two county units
which had their entire
delegations there, includ
ing alternates.
Lamar’s delegates
were Marian Dunn,
Dianne Perry, Richard
Stephenson, Jere Moore,
Beth Pearce, Monica Wal
ters and Ashley Gilles.
Gilles, the local party
chairman, was elected
the state caucus chair
person for counties
with populations under
80,000. The post carries
with it a seat on the state
GOP executive commit
tee. No one from Lamar
has ever held a position
on the state committee in
its history. Of the state’s
159 counties, 130 have
population under 80,000.
“The smaller coun
ties are often neglected
because of a sheer lack
of voters. 1 am going to
visit all 130 counties and
give them the tools and
resources to be as suc
cessful as our local party.
1 plan to unite the small
counties and together
we will win and win big,”
Gilles said.
This past week, Gilles
visited Stephens and
Habersham counties in
north Georgia and Jeff
Davis and Wheeler coun
ties in south Georgia.
On day two of the
convention, Lamar was
named a five star county,
one of only five to earn
the distinction. The
award was presented in
front of the entire assem
blage by state chairman
David Shafer. The five
star program rates coun
ties on their organization,
productivity, volunteer
efforts, diversity and
overall focus and prac
ticality with five stars
being the best.
“1 am so proud of our
county competing with
the big ones. We earned
our nickname ‘Power
house Lamar’ in the first
month. We have the best
turnout in the state. I
can’t wait to see the
amazing things we will
do in the next two years,”
Gilles concluded.
