Outgoing president Linda Olivier (left) passed the gavel to incoming president Kathy Oxford (right). Three Rotarians, Peter Banks, Kelly Hughes and Bob Taylor, were named to the Hall of Honor. Oxford and Walter Geiger were named Rotarians of the Year. Grace Horne named to UA Dean’s List Grace Horne was named to The University of Alabama Dean’s List for Spring Semester 2021. A total of 11,813 stu dents enrolled during the spring 2021 term at The University of Alabama made the Dean’s List with academic records of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists rec ognize full-time under graduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load. Varnadoe, White, Ford, Martin, Miller make Dean’s, President’s Lists at Mercer Mercer University recently announced the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2021 semester, including several students from Lamar County. Amber Castleberry of Barnes ville is a senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who earned the President’s List honor. Joshua Varnadoe of Barnesville is a junior in the College of Health Pro fessions who earned the President’s List honor. Madison White of Barnesville is a senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who earned the President’s List honor. Jude Ford of Milner is a junior in the College of Professional Advance ment who earned the President’s List honor. Kassidy Ford of Milner is a senior in the College of Professional Advance ment who earned the Dean’s List honor. DEATH NOTICES Obituaries are published as received Joseph “Joe” Curtis Andrews Mr. Joseph “Joe” Andrews, age 70, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed from this life with a peaceful smile on his face on Monday, June 28, 2021. His parents were Andy and Jean Andrews of North Aurora, 1L. Born and raised in Illinois, Joe enjoyed life with his par ents, brother and sisters. He attended North Aurora School, West Aurora High School, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Augustana College in Rock Island, 1L. Joe married his high school sweetheart, Judy Taylor, October 13, 1973. While working as a chemist for Cargill, Inc., Joe and Judy resided in Illinois, New Jersey, then Jones boro, GA. Joe changed careers in 1981 and became an owner of Cleveland Carpets and Floors in Griffin, GA. During those years, the couple lived in Griffin, GA and then moved to Barnesville, GA. He retired in 2017. Joe enjoyed living life with Judy, working outside on his tractor, playing with his grandchildren, teaching Bible studies at First Baptist Church Barnesville, mentor ing young people and working at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home. Joe truly loved life, enjoyed people, and eagerly shared his faith in Jesus Christ with others. He lived his life by the theme of one of his favorite Scripture passages, IThessalonians 5:16-18, which says to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. Joe is preceded in death by parents, Andy and Jean Andrews; two children, and four grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Judy, and their 5 chil dren: Jennifer (Mark) Mitchell, Molly (Tyler) Peek, Nathan (Brooke) Andrews, Ben (Alissa) Andrews, Abby (Josh) Adams; 16 grandchildren, Kendle, Allie, Brenna, Libby, Cyrus, Hannalee, Andy, Kayleigh, Luke, Zion, Brylee, Lillian, Bradley, Jabin, Remi and William Joseph; He is also survived by sisters, Sharon (Doug) Nord of North Aurora, 1L, Kelly (Kevin) Ryan of Hin- kley, 1L; brother, Tom (Michelle) Andrews of North Aurora 1L; many nieces and nephew; and “adopted” children, Chris (Emily) Trivette, Miguel Rodgiguez, Kiley Harris, and Amelia Daniel. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting dona tions be made to First Baptist Church, Barnesville, GA Building Fund, 200 Zebulon St. Barnesville, Ga. 30204. A funeral service for Joe Andrews was held at Barnesville First Baptist Church on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Garth Forster and Reverend Jason Teal officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends visited the family on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Barnesville First Baptist Church. Jennifer Hand earns degree from ABAC A total of 334 students completed the require ments for graduation from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at the end of the 2021 spring semester, includ ing one student from Lamar County. Jennifer Lyn Hand of Barnesville earned an associate of science in nursing. ABAC President David Bridges said 152 of those graduates received bachelor’s degrees. Mosel, Miller make President’s List Kennesaw State Uni versity recently named students to the Presi dent’s List in recognition of their academic excel lence for the Spring 2021 semester. Anslie Mosel of Barnesville and Sarah Alice Miller of Barnesville earned the President’s List honor. To achieve this honor, each undergraduate student must have com pleted at least 9 semester hours with a term grade point average of 4.0. Katherine Mann makes President’s List Students who achieved academic excel lence in their course work during the spring semester were recently recognized at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, including one student from Lamar County. Katherine Mann of Milner earned the Presi dent’s List honor. ABAC cites its top aca demic students each se mester on the President’s Honor List, the Dean’s Honor List, and the Dis tinguished Achievement List. The President’s Honor List is the highest academic honor possible for ABAC students. ABAC President David Bridges said each student on the list attained an “A” in ev ery subject, resulting in a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
