LCSO INCIDENT REPORT SUMMARY
Compiled from a summary of incident reports
completed by Lamar deputies during the period July
28-Aug. 3, 2021.
On July 28, Sgt. Wayman Henson spotted a Nissan
Altima on Barnesville Road with its tag obscured and
a broken windshield. The car turned left on Grove
Street and into a driveway at 332 Grove St. The driver
yelled out the window that he had no brakes. The
driver claimed to be Zack McKinley but Henson rec
ognized him as 28-year-old Keith Shumate with whom
he had interacted before. A business card was taped
over the V1N on the Nissan. The car actually belonged
to Keith Kennedy whose family was looking for it.
A probable cause search was done and Henson
located two $20 bills which Sgt. Keith Kendrick asked
him to take into evidence due to drug sales. Shumate
was patted down and no weapons were found but he
appeared to have something hidden in his crotch. He
was warned that carrying drugs into the jail would be
a felony and claimed he had no contraband.
At the jail Shumate was strip searched and he
tried to throw a plastic bag into the toilet. Henson
retrieved the bag which contained two bags of meth
and a xanax tablet. Shumate was arrested on charges
of windshield violation, altering a tag, unsafe opera
tion of a vehicle, suspended license, possession of
meth, possession of a Schedule IV controlled sub
stance, sale of meth, crossing guard lines with drugs,
tampering with evidence, obstruction, concealing
a license plate, giving a false name and suspended
registration.
On July 28, Dep. William Holt met with a wom
an from a Parker Branch Road address who was
scammed out of $400 while trying to purchase a Yor-
kie puppy online. The alleged scammer gave a g-mail
address in the name of Cameron Parker along with
the phone number used. After receiving the money,
the purported seller could not be reached.
On July 29, Dep. Holt worked a hit and run involv
ing a mail delivery vehicle. A small white vehicle
struck the mail vehicle near 595 Piedmont Rd. and
fled the scene. There were no injuries.
On July 29, Sgt. Kendrick opened an investigation
of Keith E. Shumate for sale of meth and possession
of meth with intent to distribute.
On July 29, Sgt. Kendrick opened an investiga
tion of Pearsall L. Gerald for possession of meth with
intent to distribute and possession of marijuana.
On July 29, Sgt. Bossie Davis worked the theft of
a child’s motorized three-wheeler from a home on
Grove Street.
On July 30, Dep. Mike Womack worked an incident
in which an EMT was bitten by a white terrier while
on a medical call at a home at 2533 Hwy. 341 South.
There were many dogs at the home.
On July 30, Lt. Mike Newman was advised by Sgt.
Wayman Henson of two white trucks blowing smoke
and traveling over 100 m.p.h. on Veterans Parkway.
He observed the trucks but was unable to catch up
until they reached TJ Outfitters on Hwy. 36 West. Sgt.
Barclay Banta stopped one truck there and Newman
stopped the other near the county line. Douglas Mul
lins and Gerardo Samayoa were each charged with
reckless driving, racing on highways or streets and
a super speeder violation. Mullins denied racing but
Samayoa admitted the drivers acknowledged each
other at a stoplight and raced.
On July 30, Dep. Redding was dispatched to a
home on Skyler Road where four pit bulls from across
the street had killed two cats. Animal control was
summoned but did not respond because the ani
mal shelter is closed due to the bridge there being
washed out.
On July 31, Dep. Patrick Saunders worked a hit
and run on 1-75 southbound. A driver said a gold se
dan traveling too fast hit his car in the rear and sped
off. Moments later, Monroe County deputies found
the gold car with a flat tire.
The driver, 23-year-old Taylor Baker, claimed to
have had a blow out but damage to the front end of
her car was consistent with the other driver’s de
scription. Baker went to jail charged with hit and run.
Her car was impounded.
On Aug. 1, Dep. Destiny Valenzuela was dispatched
to 342 Liberty Bell Rd. where a woman reported she
was pulling into her neighborhood when a black
female threw a rock and hit her car. The rock-thrower
was wearing pink shorts and a white shirt. The
investigation led to 460 McKneely Rd. where Corey
Freeman said the woman and her boyfriend had been
living.
Freeman said the woman and her boyfriend had
been living at his home and she was a family friend.
He said the woman’s name could be Tavera but he
was unsure of her actual name or birthdate.
On July 30, Dep. Banta was dispatched to a home
on Akins Street regarding a domestic dispute that had
occurred earlier at 155 Deerfield Trace. The alterca
tion involved father and son fighting over chores
with others added to the mix later. All parties were
referred to magistrate court.
On Aug. 2, Dep. Holt was dispatched to a home at
132 Antony Dr. where a woman reported a male room
mate, a friend of her husband, had come into her
room nude holding his genitalia and made lewd com
ments. The nude man, Terrell T. Lee, then walked off
toward Peterbilt. Lee was found and issued a criminal
trespass notification for the residence.
