Closing the gap
THE HERALD GAZETTE/WALTER GEIGER
Trojan defenders Antonio Altman and CJ Allen (3) close in on a Manchester ball carrier dur
ing Friday’s scrimmage. Lamar hosts Upson-Lee in its second and final tune-up Friday. Kickoff
is set for 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Field. The regular season opens Aug. 20 when LC travels to Pike
County for the Battle of Potato Creek.
Trojans fall in scrimmage
The Lamar
County Trojans fell
to the Manchester
Blue Devils 30-7 in a
scrimmage held Fri
day night at Trojan
Field. It was a typi
cal performance for
a first live action session
under a new coaching
staff and LC had at least
two touchdowns called
back on penalties.
First year head
coach Travis El
lington said he and
his staff went into
the game with the
mindset that it was
a scrimmage and
they wanted to get every
player on film for evalu
ation.
“We had a few guys
out but we got most of
them on film. We played
with good effort and the
mistakes we made can be
corrected. We saw sever
al players step up and do
some really good stuff.
We ran all base plays and
all base defense. We are
excited about this team
and where they can go,”
Ellington said.
