A dawn raid on a
home at 150 Holmes St.
in Barnesville Aug. 13 led
to two arrests
and a male
toddler being
placed into pro

The home had
been under
surveillance for
several months.
Just before
the warrant
service team
arrived, a male
subject left
the home in a
Mustang and
went to a home
on Stafford
Avenue but was
quickly located
and arrested.
Jacob Daniel
Standridge, 28,
was found in
the home with a
large amount of
meth stuffed down into
the chair in which he
was sitting, according to
sheriff Brad White.
Standridge was
charged with sale of
meth, distribution of con
trolled substances within
1,000 feet of a school
and possession of meth
with intent to distribute.
The Mustang was seized.

the Holmes
Street residence

of a Schedule 11
controlled sub

also charged
with first
degree cruelty
to children for
depriving the
child of suste
nance, accord

records.
McNaughton has
since been released on a
$15,000 bond. Like Stan
dridge, she is no stranger

A hearing on the
Lamar County School
System millage rate for
the coming year will be
held Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at
the central office board
room.
Superintendent Dr.
Jute Wilson told the
board at last week’s
regular meeting that the
proposed millage will be
16.101, the lowest rate
since 2011. He added the
system hopes to con
tinue using other funds
to reduce the burden on
taxpayers, but “costs
keep going up - we’re do
ing the best
we can.”
CARES and
state fund
ing recently
aided in the
purchase
of new
school buses
equipped
with “24/7”
cameras
that can
see all the
way around each bus.
Air conditioning for all
special needs buses is
anticipated soon, said
Cleve Hendrix, deputy
superintendent.
July’s ESPLOST collec
tion set another record,
Wilson
said, at
$229,706.52.
He also noted
replacement
air condition
ing units in
the middle
school will
include the
ionization
capabilities
to handle
bacteria and
viruses in the atmo
sphere.
The board gave final
approval for allowing
home-schooled students
to participate in athlet
ics. Such students are
required to take at least
one class at school, Wil
son said.
Approval was unani
mous for contracting
with the Georgia School
Boards Association’s risk
management program,
an insurance program
carried by most counties
in Georgia. The $100 mil
lion property insurance
plan will also cover such
occurrences as ransom-
ware, vehicles and buses,
workers’ comp and more.
GSBA was low bidder
for the risk management
program at $262,288, said
Wilson. No bids were
received from local car
riers.
