Ttojans rout Eagles 49-7; host
Jackson in home opener Friday
WALTER GEIGER
news@barnesville.com
The Lamar County
Trojans (2-0) rolled to a
49-7 win over Crawford
County Friday night in
Roberta in a sloppy,
penalty-ridden contest.
The Trojans fumbled
deep in their own terri
tory early and the Eagles
capitalized, scoring on
a 12-yard pass with 8:43
left in the first period.
The PAT was good and
the Eagles led 7-0.
Just over four minutes
later, CJ Allen scored on
a four-yard run. The PAT
failed and it was 7-6.
Kale Bryan put LC
ahead for good just 12
seconds later when he
intercepted a pass and
returned it 66 yards for a
touchdown. The two-
point conversion was
good and LC led 14-7.
At the 7:58 mark of
the second quarter, Al
len picked off another
errant Eagle pass and
returned it 39 yards for a
TD. Again the
two-pointer
was good and
it was 22-7.
At the 8:32
mark of the
third period,
Allen, who
rushed for
101 yards
on just six
carries, broke
loose on a
48-yard TD
run. Caleb
Raynie’s PAT
made it 29-7.
With 36 seconds left
in the third quarter, Tony
Altman scored on a 13-
yard run. Raynie again
was true and it was 36-7.
Altman also had an inter
ception.
With 9:55 left in the
fourth quarter, sopho
more quarterback Ty
Head scored on a 24-yard
run. Raynie’s PAT made it
43-7.
Sopho
more Daylan
Cauthen
closed out
the scoring
with a 13-yard
TD run with
2:47 left in the
game. The
PAT failed.
The Tro
jans had 365
yards of total
offense with
338 yards
coming on the
ground.
“We were happy to
go on the road and win.
We’ve got to clean up the
no-hustle penalties like
offsides calls and per
sonal fouls. We are still
working hard on funda
mentals. I’m really proud
of how the team respond
ed after things did not
go our way early in the
game. We learned some
lessons,” head coach
Travis Ellington said.
The Jackson Red Dev
ils come to town this Fri
day for the home opener.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
at Trojan Field where
it will be Rec. Night.
Jackson is 1-1. They lost
their opening game with
Ola 27-26 but rebounded
Friday with a 24-14 win
over Laney.
“Jackson is really good
at what they do and we
are going to have to have
a great week of practice
and preparation to have
success against them.
We are looking forward
to playing in front of our
home crowd,” Ellington
said.
