John Ross Hamrick
Mr. John Ross Hamrick, age 74, of Bamesville,
Georgia, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at
Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. John was born on Friday,
December 20, 1946, in Macon,
Georgia to the late John and
Ruth Hamrick. He was pre
ceded in death by his parents
John and Ruth Hamrick,
brother; Larry Hamrick, and
granddaughter; Bella Grace
Hamrick. John served his
country as a helicopter pilot
in the United States Army
in Vietnam where he earned
numerous medals for his hero
ism. John believed in serving
God as well as his country and was well known for
his patriotism. He was minister of music at several
churches including his home church, Antioch Baptist
Church where John also served as a Deacon.
John is survived by his wife Kay Land Hamrick of
53 years, whom he loved very much; sons, Johnathan
Hamrick and David (Christy) Hamrick; sister, Sharon
Lindsey; seven grandchildren who were his heart,
Kaylee, Ross, Landon, Bobby John, Virginia, Georgia,
and Savannah; and a host of extended family.
Funeral services for Mr. John Ross Hamrick was
held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021,
at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. Jeffrey Morgan
officiating. Friends visited with the family from 10:00
a.m. until the service hour at the church. Interment
followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Flow

Else Padberg Hayes
Mrs. Else Padberg Hayes, age 78 of Barnesville,
Georgia passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at her
residence.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Oppan, Germany on May
22, 1943. Her parents, Ewald and Katharine Pad
berg; grandson, Jamie Riv
ers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hayes was retired from
Walmart. She was a loving wife
mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her hus
band, George Hayes; children,
John Hayes, Mike Donaldson,
Linde Nance, James Padberg;
grandchildren, Gunner Hayes,
Gaven Hayes, Amber Rivers,
Christopher Rivers, Randy
Bray, Jason Bray, Devin Wil
lard; special friend, Misty Ingram; five great grandchil
dren; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation for Else Hayes was held Thursday,
September 2, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at
Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service
was held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
George Dale Hayes officiated. Interment followed in
Oak Hill Cemetery

Joshua Andrew Jones
Mr. Joshua Andrew Jones, 38, of Barnesville en
tered into eternal rest on Sunday August 29, 2021 at
Webstar Spalding Hospital.
Joshua had a love for painting and working on
cars.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter whom
he adored Alexis Jones of Barnesville; parents Faye
and David Darden of Barnesville; one sister Regina
Jones of Barnesville; grandparents Martha and Keith
Cardell of Barnesville; one aunt Michelle and Ernie
Alexander of Alabama; devoted cousins Amanda
Crutcher and Kendrick Jameison of Alabama; a de
voted friend Chad and Sarah Taylor of Barnesville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for
Mr. Jones.

Annie Ruth Hughes
Ms. Annie Ruth Hughes, 100, of Barnesville transi
tioned on August 24, 2021 in the Monroe County Hos
pital. Funeral Services were held on Saturday August
28, 2021 at Summer’s Field. Rev. Willie Green Jr. was
the officiating minister. Trice Funeral Home Inc. of
Barnesville was in charge of all professional services.
Ms. Hughes is survived by her two children Mrs.
Diane (Preston) Hobbs of McDonough and Mr. Tom
my Hughes (Judy Jenkins) of Barnesville, and a grand
daughter she raised as her own Mrs. Ebony (George
Sr.) Butts of Barnesville. She has eight grandchildren,
Monique Wells, McDonough, GA, Vincent Hughes,
Barnesville, GA, Tyrone Hughes, McDonough, GA, Fre-
daricka (David) Graham, McDonough, GA, Calandra
Zellner, Atlanta, GA, Tiffany Zellner, McDonough, GA
and the late Sylvia (Dennis) Pye; 17 great-grands and
six great-grands; as well as a dedicated niece Kathy
(Larry) Kelly, Barnesville, GA, Mary Green, Reno,
NV, Darlene Grant, Cleveland, OH, Pastor Willie F.
Green Jr. (Charlene) Barnesville, GA, Robert Green,
Chicago, 1L, Christopher Green, San Antonio, TX. She
also leaves a host of family and friends to cherish her
memory. All of which she has imparted her immacu
late wisdom.

James “Jim" Bowles
Mr. James “Jim” Bowles, 57, of Barnesville transi
tioned on September 1, 2021 in the Upson Regional
Medical Center. Trice Funeral Home Inc. of Barnes
ville has been entrusted with all professional ser
vices.
Jim leaves behind a wonderful family to cherish
his memory, including a son Lance Malcolm of Atlan
ta; a mother Ms. Rosa Bowles of Barnesville; sisters
Sieglinda Mood of Woodbridge, VA, Shauna Patterson
of New Orleans, LA, and Benjamin Bowles, and Darren
Bowles both of Barnesville; a host of aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him
dearly.
Dorothy Jean Harris
Ms. Dorothy Jean Harris, 73, of Barnesville tran
sitioned on August 30, 2021 in the Upson Regional
Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the West Mount Sinai
Baptist Church. Pastor Waylon Knight officiated and
interment was in the O’Neal Cemetery. Visitation was
held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Trice Funeral Home Inc. of
Barnesville has been entrusted with all professional
services.
Jean is survived by her daughters Mrs. Cathy
(Richard) Ingram, Mrs. Cynthony Jenkins (Donald
Coleman) both of Barnesville, Ms. Lorraine Easterly
of Pennsylvania, and Ms. Jessica Parson; sons Mr.
Mack (Betty) Harris Jr., Mr. Lonnie Harris, Mr. Bruce
Harris all of Barnesville and Mr. Jonathan Shell of
Atlanta; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchil
dren also survive; one sister Mrs. Beverly (Frank)
Burden Conyers, GA; one brother Mr. Ralph Harris
of Newark, NJ; a son-in-law Mr. Stewart Brown and
sisters-in-law Ms. Jeanette Harris and Eleanor Ervin
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many
dear friends whom all will miss her dearly.
Leon Walker
Mr. Leon Walker, 55, of Barnesville transitioned on
August 23, 2021 at his residence. Graveside services
were held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the Green
wood Cemetery. Pastor Keith Battle provided the
words of comfort. Trice Funeral Home Inc. of Barnes
ville was in charge of all professional services.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife Mrs. Brenda
Caslin Walker of Griffin; mother Mrs. Catherine J.
Walker of Barnesville; two daughters Toriana Barber
of Barnesville and Tiara Pope of Griffin; a sister, Mrs.
Jacqueline (Larry) O’Neal of Barnesville; two broth
ers Mr. John Perry (Joann) Walker Jr. and Mr. Andre
Walker both of Barnesville; a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and many dear friends and co-workers will
all miss him dearly.

Rev. Phillip
Nolan English
Reverend Phillip Nolan English, age 78, of Barnes
ville, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021,
at his residence.
Reverend English was born in Griffin, Georgia on
December 18, 1942. He is preceded in death by his
parents, Gus English and Ova
Mae Rector English; brother,
Raymond Lloyd English.
Reverend English served
his country in the United
States Army, he received an
engineering degree in which
he used as an engineer for
Aldora Mills in Barnesville, he
established a business that
ran for over 20 years, E&E Of
fice Supply Company Inc., and
he was the founder of Golden
Pipe Ministries. He pastored churches in the sur
rounding area for over 40 years. Reverend English
was an avid golfer, coached many sports and loved
music.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jackie Wil
liams English; daughter and son in law, Denise and
Ben Mauldin; sons and daughters in law, Michael and
Renee English, Jonathan and Jessica English; grand
children, Chris Mauldin, Jennifer Mickle, Jacob and
Molly English, Elizabeth English, Rebecca English,
Hannah English, Rachel English, Sarah English, David
English; great grandchildren, Diane Mauldin, Benja
min Mauldin, Charity Mauldin, Isaiah Mickle, Samuel
English; sister, Mary Jane Blalock; several nieces and
nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 4, 2021
from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Fresh Manna Minis
tries Church in Barnesville. Following the visitation a
funeral service was conducted in the church sanctu
ary with Michael English officiating. Burial followed in
the church cemetery.

Michael Scott Sorensen, age 48, of Barnesville, GA
passed away unexpectedly, Friday, August 27, 2021,
at the WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital, Griffin,
Spalding Co., GA. Michael was born Saturday, June
23, 1973, on the Gulf Coast
Coast at Biloxi, Harrison Co.,
MS to Michael Alvin Sorensen
and Nora Jean Goss Sorensen.
Early on we knew him as
Scottie. He was a graduate of
the Vancleave High School,
Vancleave, MS. Michael had
lived in the Barnesville area
since 1996, where he met
and married the chick of his
dreams, that he loved until
his final day. His entire world
spun around his family. Michael had a gentle spirit
and a kindness that extended to everyone he met. He
was passionate about his music always making sure
we cranked up the bass until you could feel the vibra
tions around you. He had a love for all hand weapons
and was a huge supporter of our Second Amendment
Rights. Michael was a proud veteran of the United
States Army and served his country with the 25th
Infantry Division Rangers known as ‘Tropical Light
ning’ as a sharp shooter. Army assignments took him
to Haiti for Operation Uphold Democracy, Australia,
as well as being stuck in paradise on the Hawaiian
Islands during his active duty. Upon his return state
side, he felt privileged to serve his community at the
Georgia State Diagnostic Center and Prison in Jack-
son, GA as a corrections officer for many years. Most
recently he was employed with The International
Paper Company, in Griffin, GA. He was preceded in
death by loving brothers, Brian Keith Sorensen, Kevin
Wayne Sorensen; brother-in-law, Bradley Douglas Bau
man; maternal grandparents, Grace Lee Page Goss,
James Roy Goss & ‘Dottie’ Dorothy Beulah Quave
Goss; paternal grandparents, Charles ‘Sam’ Eugene
Yates, Sr. & Rose Mary Treloar Sorensen Yates; step-
grandparents, Matt T. Spillers; Henrietta Starling Drin-
nen & ‘Jay’ John Willis Drinnen; and uncles, Charles
A. Bond and Sammy Jay Caraway, Sr.
Michael is survived by the rising star in his life and
only child, Ash M. Sorensen; his mother, Nora Jean
Waltman, Huffman, TX; his father, Michael (Brenda)
Sorensen, Barnesville, GA; brothers, Shawn (Dana)
Sorensen, Huffman, TX; Aaron (Brittney) Waltman,
Liberty, TX; sister, Amy Bauman, Clarkesville, GA;
grandmother, Elbe Tanner Spillers, Lucedale, MS;
father-in-law, Ron Lee (Jena) Keffer, Thomaston;
mother-in-law, Judy Ramsey Dickens, Molena, GA;

Lamar County Sheriff’s Department, local EMS, for
exceptional service and assistance provided in our
family’s time of need as well as the doctors, nurses,
and staff ‘Heroes’ of the WellStar Spalding Regional
Hospital for rendering services beyond our expecta
tions. Memorial services will be announced at a later

Public Hearing
Proposed 2021-2022 Annual Budget
The Mayor and Council of the City of Bamesville
will hold a public healing on the Proposed 2021-
2022 Annual Budget at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 7, 2021, in the Courtroom at the Police
Building, 100 Mill Street in Barnesville, Georgia.
The millage rate for 2021 will be set in conjunction
with the adoption of the 2021-2022 City of
Barnesville Budget. A copy of the proposed budget
is available for review in the Acting City Manager’s
Office located in City Hall.
