9/11 Day was created in 2002 as a nonprofit organization with
the support of the 9/11 community and a mission to “rekindle
the extraordinary spirit of togetherness and compassion that
arose in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy, and to
inspire Americans and others to do good deeds that help to
create a better and more peaceful world.”
On the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the
organization hopes to inspire people in the U.S. and around
the world to perform 100 million good deeds “in remembrance
and tribute.” To learn more or join the effort, visit 911day.org.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed on
September 11, 2001. It was the single
largest loss of life resulting from a foreign
attack on American soil.
