LC school board
hears state CTAE
grants for 2022

Georgia’s Department
of Education annually
offers grants for the Per
kins CTAE program at La
mar County High School.
The coming year’s grants
total $26,368, the board
of education learned at
its regular meeting last
week.
A majority of the total
grant amount, $25,110,
will go for purchase of
Surface Pro tablets for
education and training,
AVTF, agriculture and
healthcare. Designated
for OSHA safety certifica
tion for students in the
Ag program is $1,925; the
final $1,333 is to be used
for program recruitment
supplies such as paper,
brochures, posters and
banners.
All federal and state
grants offered were ap
proved unanimously by
the board. Also approved
were the board meeting
dates for 2022: second
Mondays beginning Jan.
10; Feb. 14; March 14;
April 18, third Monday
due to spring break; May
9; June 13; July 18, third
Monday due to July 4
holiday; Aug. 8; Sept. 12;
October 17, third Mon
day due to fall break;
and Nov. 14. All meetings
are held at 6 p.m. in the
central office board room
unless otherwise an
nounced.
ESPLOST for August
2021 was reported at
$210,699, more than Au
gust of 2020 but slightly
less than July of 2021.
Board members also ap
proved the Local School
Board Training Plan for
the 2021-22 school year,
and a consent agenda
which included one facil
ity use, 16 fund raisers,
one overnight field trip,
eight recommendations
for staff positions, three
resignations and one ter
mination. First reading of
a board policy on execu
tive sessions required no
action.
Trojans open
region play Friday
The Lamar County
Trojans open region play
Friday night when the
Golden Hawks of Wash
ington County come to
town. Kickoff on sponsor
night is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Golden Hawks
had their first two games
cancelled due to COVID.
They beat Swainsboro
22-21 Sept. 10 and Evans
43-26 Sept. 17. WACO is
ranked #XX in the latest
AJC/GHSFD poll.
Coming off a bye week,
Lamar is 3-1 with wins
over Pike County, Craw
ford County and Jackson.
Their one loss came
Sept. 10 to Pacelli.
Region 3-AA is one
of the toughest in the
state. NE Macon, Bleck
ley County and Dodge
County are all in the Top
10.
Lady Trojans split
two region games
The LC Lady Trojans
split two region games
played last week to run
their record to 7-6 for the
season.
On Tuesday, LC fell 3-1
to Dodge County at Al-
dora Field. Autumn Hin-
kley went the distance
for LC but took the loss.
The Indians got three in
the first and made that
lead hold up. The visitors
had only two hits but LC
helped them with two
errors.
Paige Mayfield had
two hits for the Lady
Trojans while Lauren
Wilcher drove in the lone
run.
The SW Macon Pa
triots were here briefly
Thursday but LC dis
patched them quickly
with 16 runs in the bot
tom of the first en route
to a 16-0 win in a game
halted by mercy rule
after 2.5 innings. Hinkley
got the win, allowing
no hits and striking out
eight.
Mayfield led LC with
two hits and three rbis.
Jamizyah Banks had two
hits. Kaitlyn Ziehme had
one hit and two rbis. Jury
Carter also drove in two
runs.

night after a much-needed bye week. The Trojans (3-1) are coming off their first loss to Pacelli Sept. 10.
This week’s opponent is #8 Washington County. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Crash at dangerous intersection
First responders attend to 37-year-old Gregory Logan early Sept. 15 after his Honda motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at
the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 7 and the Hwy. 36 bypass just after 7 a.m. Logan was lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center with a
broken leg and hip injuries and has since been released.
Logan, who lives on Willis Road, was northbound on the four-lane when a 2007 Ford Escape, driven by Jaime Riehle, 17, of
Milner pulled out in front of him. Riehle, who was shaken up but unhurt, was cited for failure to yield, according to the Georgia
State Patrol.
The crash prompted a renewed chorus of calls for traffic signals at the intersection.

PUBLIC NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the logic and accuracy
testing and preparation of voting equipment to be
used in the November 2, 2021, General & Special
Election will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Sep
tember 27, 2021. Such preparation and testing will
continue from day to day until complete. Said test
ing and preparation will be conducted at the Lamar
County Board of Elections and Registration Office
located at 408 Thomas ton Street, Barnesville, GA
30204. The preparation and testing will be open to
the public and members of the public are entitled to
be present during the preparation and testing. Public
observers and media will be subject to the rules for
public gatherings, public access, and proper social
distancing.
