Bobby Franklin Smith
Pastor Bobby Franklin Smith, of Murphey Avenue,
Barnesville, GA passed on Tuesday, August 31, 2021
at his residence.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, Septem
ber 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Griffin First Assembly
Church in Griffin, GA. Pastor John Flott delivered
the Eulogy assisted by Pastor Gregory Smith, Pastor
Woodrow Walker, Minister Ronnie Rooks, Minister Mi
chael Penn, Minister Catherine Robinson, Pastor
Zebedee Weston and Minister Willie Smith. Interment
was in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville, GA.
Pastor Smith attended Luther Judson Price High
school in Atlanta, GA and graduated with the Class
of 1964. After graduation, he entered the military
and served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne of
the U.S. Army. Pastor Smith accepted Christ in 1975
and preached his first sermon in January, 1978 in
Oakland, CA. He started his career at General Mo
tors where he began to evangelize. He organized
a prayer ministry and Bible Study. After his father
passed, he became the pastor of By Faith Fellowship
in 1988. After his marriage to Mrs. Mary Mathis Smith
in 1993, they moved to Barnesville, GA and started
the ministry, Willing and Obedient Praise and Wor
ship Church which later became “Jesus, the Bread of
Life Church.” Pastor Bobby brought hope and heal
ing to men who never had a relationship with their
father. He also visited the local nursing homes to give
encouragement and share the love of Jesus Christ.
He was survived by his devoted wife of twenty-
eight years, Dr. Marye M. Smith of Barnesville, GA; a
loving daughter, and son-in-law, Mrs. Terria Lynn and
Timothy Thomas of McDonough, GA; three grand
daughters, Erica, Aliceson and Naomi Grace; two
sisters, Mr. Mary Ann Wilson of Silver Spring, MD
and Minister Catherine Smith-Robinson of Atlanta,
GA; two brothers, Rev. Willie Samuel (Wendy) Smith
of Riverdale, GA and Pastor Gregory Carl (Beverly)
Smith of Thomaston, GA.; his godson, Mr. Eigen (An
gela) Collier of Barnesville, GA; sisters and brothers-
in-law include, Evang. Linda Thompson and Ms.
Shelia Risper both of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Patricia
Fuller and Mr. Johnny Jones, Jr. both of Woodbridge,
VA and Mr. James Ridley of Perry, GA; a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family friends
and parishioners.
Patti Cochran Gunter
Patti Cochran Gunter, age 48 of Barnesville, Geor
gia passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021
at Upson Regional Hospital.
Patti was born in Griffin, Georgia on July 9, 1973.
She is preceded in death by her niece, Lauren Faith
Cannady. She was a member
of The Griffin First Church of
the Nazarene where she led
the church choir. Patti was
employed with Lamar County
Primary School for almost 10
years. She loved her family,
being active in her church
and she loved her cats.
Survivors include her
husband of 26 years, Marty
Gunter; daughter, Chloe
Gunter; sisters and brother
in laws, Beverly and Tim Cannady, Angie and Roy
Butts; parents, Jimmy and Joyce Cochran; nieces,
Abbey Dixon, Taylor White, Bethany Bunn, Kimberly
Summerville, Lacy Pinyan; nephews, Isaiah Cannady,
Casey Hammond.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 18,
2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Conner-West-
bury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral
service was conducted in the Chapel of Conner-West-
bury with Reverend Gordon Tippins officiating.

Ronald "Ron"
Joe Corzine
Mr. Ronald Joe Corzine (“Ron”) went to be with the
Lord on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Wellstar Spald
ing Hospital in Griffin.
Ron was born on Tuesday, October 2, 1945 in
Augusta, Georgia to the late David Buford Corzine, Sr
and Laura Kathleen Story. Ron
was a lover of classic cars, es
pecially Corvettes. He enjoyed
his time in the yard, cutting
grass on the hottest of days,
and sometimes, in the rain.
He also enjoyed time with his
family and his woodworking.
Ron was a member at First
Baptist Church in Barnesville.
He is preceded in death by his
parents, and granddaughter,
Amber Corzine.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years,
Laura Davis Corzine; son, Ronald Joe Corzine, Jr.
(Lynn); grandson, Grayson Mingledorff; and a host of
extended family.
A funeral service for Mr. Ron Corzine will be held
on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in
the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Barnesville
with Rev. Garth Forster officiating the service. The
family will greet friends and loved ones one hour
prior to the service at the church. The interment will
be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon at 2:00 p.m.
(weather permitting).

Donald Shannon Tyler
Donald Shannon Tyler age 50 of Barnesville Ga.,
passed away Saturday September 18, 2021 at Upson
Regional Medical Center.
Shannon was born on May 21, 1971 in Columbus
Ga., to Donnie Tyler and Virginia Scott Tyler. He was
employed with Helix where
he worked as an Operation
Manager. Shannon served his
community as a volunteer
fireman.
Survivors include his wife

Ga., daughter Kenley Tyler of
Atlanta Ga., sons Zack Tyler
of Lagrange Ga., Cullen Tyler
of Barnesville Ga., father
Donnie Tyler of Thomaston
Ga., mother Virginia Tyler of
Barnesville Ga., step brother Brent (Jessica) McDaniel
of Macon Ga., sister Shawn (Brent) Daniel of Thomas
ton Ga., step sister Kaki (Steve) Heath of Athens Ga.,
grandchild Jax Tyler.
The family received friends at Coggins Funeral
Home on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. -
7:00 p.m.
The family will have a private service at a later
date.

Rochelle Ward Kantner
Mrs. Rochelle Ward Kantner, 102 years young,
stepped into Glory on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at
Sunny Grove Assisted Living.
Rochelle was born in Malvern, Alabama on Satur
day, November 16, 1918 to the late DeWitt Talmadge
Ward, and Esther Hall. Ms. Kantner was a third-grade
school teacher in Lamar
County Public Schools for
37 years. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church
in Barnesville and has been
since 1951. Rochelle taught
Sunday School and enjoyed
sharing the Word of God with
all that would listen. Ms.
Kantner was a member of the
Gideons International where
she handed out Bibles and
New Testaments whenever
she could. Recently, Rochelle’s proudest moment was
being crowned Golden Ms. Buggy Days during the
Buggy Days Festival in Barnesville. She is preceded
in death by her husband of 46 years, James Robert
Kantner; sisters Sybil Gibson, and Lanis Ward.
The family would like to extend their deepest
appreciation for the staff at Sunny Grove Assisted
Living, the staff of Heartland Hospice and the many
friends for the great care of Mrs. Rochelle Ward Kant
ner.
Rochelle is survived by her sisters, Stella Malone
of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Vitanna Peevy of
Satsuma, Alabama; six nieces and nephews, and a
host of extended family.
A funeral service for Mrs. Rochelle Ward Kant
ner will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at
11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of
Barnesville with Reverend Garth Forster officiating
the service. The family will greet friends and loved
ones one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow the service at Lamar Memory Gar
dens.

Rain can’t stop buggy Days
Rain put a damper on-but could not shut down-the 47th
Buggy Days over the weekend. Arts & crafts vendors and food
booths did a reasonable amount of business despite the wet
conditions and COVID cutbacks to the festival event lineup.

Public Hearing Meeting
Milner, Georgia
The City of Milner will conduct a public hearing
on October 7, 2021, at 6:00pm at the Milner
Community Library to present the proposed
operating budget for the coming year. This includes
the budget for the City’s Fund for the period of
January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022. A copy
of the proposed budget summary and complete
proposed budget are available for public inspection
during business hours at City Hall and posted on
the bulletin board in City Hall. The adoption of the
2022 Budget Resolution is scheduled for October
25, 2021, at 6:00pm in Milner Community library
at 159 Main Street.
