They received their Eagle Scout Rank on June 23 and were celebrated with their Ceremony at Antioch Baptist Church on Sept. 11. Two Rivers RC&D and the Lamar County Soil and Water Conservation District funded the Eagle projects for both Scouts. Dawson Cauthen completes FROG Week More than 200 cadets began their time as Uni versity of North Georgia (UNG) cadets with Fresh man Recruit Orientation Group (FROG) Week from Aug. 15-21, including one student from Lamar County. FROG Week marks the transition from civilian to military life within UNG’s Corps of Cadets. Dawson Cauthen of Barnesville was the local cadet who completed FROG Week. Cadet leaders plan and execute all corps events, including FROG Week, with the oversight of the commandant staff. UNG is one of six senior military colleges in the nation and commissions more than 100 officers into the Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserves each year. Cadet Col. Ryan Jones, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, pursuing a degree in strategic and security studies, is the brigade commander who leads the more than 725 cadets enrolled at UNG. He said the knowledge and experiences gained in FROG Week help inte grate the newcomers into the corps. “FROG Week offers us a great opportunity to bring in our new fresh men and build a team with our cadet leaders,” Jones said. “These older cadets give FROGs role models to look up to as they adjust to the leader ship laboratory of the corps.” Kimberly Oberg earns degree from VSU Valdosta State Uni versity recently an nounced the members of its graduating class of Summer 2021, including one student from Lamar County. Kimberly Oberg of Barnesville earned the Education Specialist in Teacher Leadership. More than 550 students completed their degree requirements during Summer Semester 2021. “1 am incredibly proud of our graduates for having the dedication to overcome countless obstacles, including this ongoing global health cri sis, and to finish strong and reach this significant milestone,” said Dr. Rich ard A. Mara Peroutka makes Kennesaw State Dean’s List Mara Peroutka of Milner was named to Kennesaw State University’s Summer 2021 Dean’s List, which recognizes students for their academic achievement during the summer semester. A media and entertainment major, Peroutka was among more than 900 students named to the Summer 2021 Dean’s List. To qualify, undergraduate students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete a mini mum of nine credit hours. Grace Home graduates from Alabama Grace Horne of Forsyth graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama on July 31, 2021, with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Dance and Hospitality Management. Grace was a 2018 honor graduate of Lamar County High School and a dual enrollment student at Gordon State College. She is currently the Event Manager for Twelve 25 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Grace is the daughter of James and Heidi Horne and the granddaughter of Sinclair and Carol Horne and Larry and Malinda Witt. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held Milner Community Library, 159 Main Street. Milner, Ga on September 27, 2021, at 5:00pm. Times and place of additional public hearing on this tax increase are at Milner Community Library, 159 Main Street, Milner, Ga on October 4, 2021, at 11:00am and 6:00pm. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 5.000 mills, an increase of 0.500 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 4.500 mills.
