Walk is
today
The Barnesville
Rotary Club will honor
all local first respond
ers at its annual Honor
Walk today at noon at
Summers Field Park. All
police officers, sheriff’s
deputies, firefighters,
DNR rangers, EMTs and
other emergency person
nel are invited.
Lunch will be served
at the park and then
attendees will walk
through town. The walk
should start around
12:30 p.m. It begins and
ends at the park.

Probe continues into death of
man whose body was found here

Currently, there are more
mysteries than clues as to who
killed a 23-year-old Ellenwood
man whose body was found
dumped here Nov. 9.
Members of a county road
crew discovered the body
in the tree line on the west
side of Possum Trot Road
just south of its intersection
with Norris Road. Sheriff Brad
White identified the
victim as Malik Dean-
thony Robinson who
suffered at least one
gunshot wound.
The sheriff said
Robinson had been
reported dead in an
abandoned house in
Decatur Nov. 7 but the
body was removed
before law enforce
ment responded. There
ROBINSON
is no
indication Robinson
was killed here.
Sheriff’s investiga
tors are conducting
a grid search of cell
phones active in the
area around the time
the body was found
in hopes of finding a
lead.
Robinson’s body
was taken to the GBI
crime lab for autopsy.

Health and physical educa
tion teacher Jasmine Zellner,
who has served in several
coaching positions at Lamar
County schools, was named by
vote of her peers and honored
as Teacher of the Year at the
November school board meet
ing.
She has been with the LCSS
for nine years, having taught a
year at the elementary school
before transferring to the
middle school in her present
position. The Albany State Uni
versity graduate has coached
middle and high school girls’
basketball. Zellner says she en
joys her position in health and
phys ed because “it gives me
a chance to meet just about
every student -1 have three
years to know them all.” At-risk
students are a special interest,
she said: “1 love watching them

grow and being a part of their
transformation.”
It’s her joy, she adds, “to
be a positive influence on the
students and they grow and
learn -1 encourage them to
be themselves, and they tell
me I’m very understanding.”
Zellner is a graduate of Lamar
County High whose motto for
her students is, “Don’t be like
Coach Zellner - be better than
Coach Zellner.” She asks them
to become readers of all kinds
of books and to get involved
in the community - “and keep
up with what’s going on in the
world.”
She and her husband Jyles
Zellner enjoy traveling and
seeing national parks, and she
does crafts in her spare time.
This was her first-time TOTY
honor at the school, and the
school has celebrated her sys
tem TOTY award with a huge
bulletin board of photographs.

zoning tonight
The Lamar County commis
sion will hold a public hearing
on the proposed subdivision
of 105 acres at the intersection
of Hwy. 36 East and Eady Creek
Road at its regular meeting
tonight. The meeting is set for
7 p.m. at the courthouse.
The planning and zoning
board conducted a hearing on
the matter Nov. 11 and tabled it
pending more information from
DOT.
Eady Creek, LLC proposes to
subdivide the acreage into 65
one-acre lots and build five new
roads.
ESF needs
help to provide
Christmas gifts
for 264 kids
The annual Empty Stock
ing Fund drive is underway
and volunteers have a tall task
ahead of them.
The application process has
closed and Glenn and Vicki
Forsyth and their band of ESF
volunteers have 264 children
from 84 families to provide
gifts for this holiday season.
If you would like to help,
drop off your monetary dona
tion or toys at the Barnesville
Fire Station on Forsyth Street
adjacent to city hall.
The annual Chamber of
Commerce After Hours event
to benefit ESF will be held
Thursday, Dec. 9 from 5-7 p.m.

LCSO
investigators
assist with
huge Henry
Co. drug bust
Narcotics investigators from
the Lamar County sheriff’s
office assisted with a months’
long investigation that led to a
raid last week in Henry County.
A team hit the home of Car
los Morales in Henry County.
Seized in the raid were 41
ounces of meth, heroin, narcot
ics in pill form, marijuana, eight
ounces of GHB and a stolen
pistol.
Morales faces multiple
charges including trafficking in
meth. He is being held at the
Henry County jail.
