Christmas parade rolls
through B’ville Saturday
The second annual
Christmas parade will
roll through the streets of
Barnesville Saturday night
and the community is
already buzzing with antici
pation. The theme for the
parade is ‘A Country Christ
mas’.
Interim city manager Tim
Turner reported Monday he
has over 30 volunteers on
board to help.
Begun last year as a
COVID diversion and a way
to celebrate the 100th an
niversary of the founding of
Lamar County, the parade
was an instant favorite, es
pecially among the kids.
Santa will take part in the
parade though he is altering
his mode of transportation
to a tricked-out Jeep so his
reindeer can rest up for the
big day.
Staging will begin at 3
p.m. at the Gordon parking
lots off College Drive. The
parade will roll out at 6:30
p.m.
There will be awards for
the best three floats and
decorated golf carts. The
designers of the first place
float will get $250 with
second place receiving $150
and third place $100. The
best golf cart winner will get
$120. Second place wins $75
and third place $50.
Floats and golf carts must
be entered by Thursday,
Dec. 1 at 4:30 p.m. Forms

Thomaston Street shooting, first
thought to he suicide, scrutinized

A fatal shooting, originally
thought to be a suicide, that oc
curred Nov. 19 at a home at 722
Thomaston Street in Barnesville
is under additional scrutiny. A
resident of the home, 45-year-
old Richard Chad Wilson, was
dead at the scene which turned
chaotic.
Both coroner Clay Tillery
and BPD investigator Capt. A1
Moltrum reported last week the
shooting remains under inves
tigation.
After some delay, Wilson’s
body was sent to the GB1 crime
lab for autopsy.
Towaliga circuit district
attorney Jonathan Adams
reported Monday his office has
gotten involved in the case. He
said two females were
at the home at the time
of the shooting.
“They did gunshot
residue testing on
the deceased. They
did gunshot residue
testing on one of the
females. The other
female was not there
and, for some reason,
they did not pursue testing
on her. There was an initial
delay in getting the autopsy. 1
pushed that through for them
and it is getting done. We have
served a warrant for and are
going through various phones,
computers and social media,”
Adams said.
One of the females in the
home, 45-year-old Dawn Mi
chelle Wilson, was arrested
Nov. 29 on a charge of obstruc
tion of an officer. She is
free on a $5,000 bond,
according to court
records. There is no
record of an arrest of
the second female who
authorities did not
identify.
Moltrum said Mi
chelle Wilson slapped
a warrant out of Inv.
Belinda Penamon’s hand as she
attempted to serve it, resulting
in her arrest.
Prior to the obstruction
arrest, Michelle Wilson had
been booked into the Lamar
County jail five times since 2013
on various charges including
disorderly conduct, public nui
sance, simple battery, terroris
tic threats and acts and public
drunk, according to booking
records provided by sheriff
Brad White.

last week it would close 300

The company has about
