Dorm fire demonstration at Gordon
The Barnesville Fire Department, in conjunction with the Gordon public safety office, conducted a demonstration for stu
dents living on campus April 13. Firefighters burned a mock-up of a dorm room, instructing students on how fast such a fire
spreads and offering tips on how to survive such an event.

Man arrested for shooting at vehicle
Danarre McDowell, 17, is escorted into magistrate court
by Dep. Ally Johnson April 13 for a first appearance hearing
before Judge Paul Kunst. McDowell was arrested after alleg
edly firing two shots from a rifle that hit a car on Mill Street
April 11.
McDowell had been involved in a dispute with two people
in the car prior to opening fire, according to Capt. Al Moltrum
of the BPD. No one was injured. McDowell, who is facing two
counts of aggravated assault, is free on a $10,000 bond.

Diamond Trojans
win three straight
The LC Diamond
Trojans (19-5, 7-3) rolled
to three straight wins last
week with two of those
victories coming over
a region opponent. The
regular season winds
down this week.
Last Monday, LC
mercy ruled Monticello
12-2 after 5.5 innings at
Aldora Field. Cameron
King started and went
four innings for LC to
notch the win. Caden De
witt pitched in relief. The
Hurricanes managed only
two hits as King struck
out seven.
Nathan Tidwell had
three hits and drove in
five runs to pace the
Trojan attack. Hutson
Traylor also had two hits
for Lamar.
On Wednesday, the
same two teams met
in Monticello and LC
punched out a 16-6 vic
tory. Tidwell went four
innings to get the win,
striking out seven.
Tidwell helped him
self at the plate with
another five rbi day on
three more hits. Ayden
Hollis had three hits and
three rbis. Talon Dender
managed two hits and
Kale Bryan drove in three
runs.
On Thursday, the
Trojans took on the
Spalding Jags in Griffin
and brought home an
11-1 win. Jackson Grogan
got the win, going all five
innings and recording
one strikeout. The Jags
managed only two hits.
Donavan Sanford had
two hits and two rbis for
LC as did Rhett Blount.
Dender had a hit and two
rbis.
The Trojans are in sec
ond place in Region 3-AA
behind undefeated Bleck
ley County. They travel
to NE Macon tonight and
then host the Raiders
Friday on senior night.
Saturday promises a
non-region game against
Heard County to close
out the regular season.
First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
at Aldora Field.

with two Eagle Palms

Tobias “Toby” Raynie
was awarded the Boy
Scout Rank of Eagle
Scout with two palms.
It takes 21 merit badges
and a lot of work to be
come an Eagle Scout. For
each five merit badges
over the required 21, an
Eagle Scout is awarded
an Eagle Palm. The award
service was held at The
Aldora United Methodist
Church with family and
friends attending. Previ
ously, his Eagle project
was polishing the two
brass cannons at Gordon
State College. Toby is the
son of Dr. and Mrs. Ste
ven Raynie (Joanne) and
attends Lamar County
High School.
Toby is number 43
of the Troop 38 Eagle
scouts which can be seen
displayed in the back
ground of the picture.
