Newspaper Page TextSubdivisions key topic at town hall meeting tonight HERE’S THE SCOOP VOTE Early voting ongoing Early voting in the May 24 is ongoing at the elections board office in the county annex. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily through Friday, May 20. The second of two Saturday voting sessions will held May 14. Several local races will be de cided in the primary. As of press time Monday, elections su perintendent Anita Reid and her staff has served 338 early voters and processed 30 absentee ballots. Your name goes on the label in this box WALTER GEIGER news@barnesville.com A town hall meeting on the overhaul of the county’s development ordinance is set for 5:30 p.m. tonight at the courthouse. The plan for the meeting is to delve deeply into the current regulations and proposed changes to them. The meeting will be less formal than a regu lar county commission meeting. Citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input. The commission will hold a formal public hearing on the develop ment ordinance at its regular meeting May 17 after which it is ex pected to approve the second reading of it. The new regulations restrict the develop ment of subdivisions of one-acre lots to areas along major traffic arteries and within certain radii of munici palities. Such subdivi sions would be banned entirely in the Eady Creek watershed under the current proposal. For more informa tion, contact the plan ning and zoning office at 770.358.5364. ONEWAY TRAFFIC Market Street to be one-way Market Street in Barnes ville will become a one way thoroughfare in June after action taken by the city council May 2. The street will accom modate only westbound traffic from Main Street to near Greenwood Street following the change. The council moved to make the change after consult ing with all affected busi ness owners. A provision will be made for access to the United Bank drive-thru op eration from Greenwood St. The move will become official when the council hears the second reading of an ordinance at its regu lar meeting June 6. There has long been sentiment that the street is too narrow to handle parking on its north side in addition to two-way traffic. Robert Strong to coach Trojan basketball Robert Strong, pictured with his wife Betsy, has been named head basketball coach for the LC boys team. He re places Kerry English who has resigned. Strong comes to LC from Monticello High School (Jasper County). Eliana Henry (bottom) was a study in concentration as she took her cuts at the plate. 1 96852 78853 8 LC elite recruit CJ Allen sets commitment date WALTER GEIGER news@barnesville.com Trojan football standout Christian Ja- mar Allen, known to all as CJ, has set his com mitment date for July 9. He is an elite inside linebacker recruit with a long list of scholar ship offers. Depending on which recruiting service you prefer, Allen is either a three-star or four-star recruit. He is gener ally considered to be among the top 40 line backers in the nation in the Class of 2023. Allen is 6-1, tips the scales at 220 pounds and is fast-very fast! Earlier this year, he ran an 11.11 100-meters despite stumbling out of the blocks. In ad dition to football and track, Allen is a power forward on the FC basketball team who can power clean 500 pounds in the weight room. Allen has long been a target for UGA co defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Glenn Schumann. Coach Schu, as he is known, and head coach Kirby Smart were here to watch Allen play bas ketball just days after defeating Alabama in the national champion ship game. Allen was in Athens for the G-Day game April 16 and has made many other trips there as a recruit. The Dawgs are thought to be the frontrunner for Allen’s services by many and UGA will get the first of his official visits June 3-5. Other schools get ting official visits are Oklahoma, Southern Cal and Tennessee. Recruits can take five official visits so Allen may add another. Bigger, faster and stronger than ever before, Allen expects to firmly establish him self as the most highly sought after Trojan athlete ever this fall.
