Boston butt fundraiser for LC baseball Trojans The Lamar County Dugout Club is hosting its 20th annual Boston Butt fundraiser just in time for Thanksgiv ing. Ten-pound butts cooked and wrapped are $45. Those cooked and panned are $50. Pickup dates are Nov. 18 and 19 from 4-6 p.m. at Aldora Field. For more information, call Mike Oberg at 770.880.7705. Your name goes on the label in this box 96852 78853 Local Veterans Day observances scheduled Two Veterans Day events are on the schedule locally but neither will take place on Nov. 11 which falls on a Saturday this year. The first will be held in the cafeteria at La mar County Elementa ry School on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 9-10 a.m. A special section will be reserved for veterans. For more informa tion, call 770.358.5556. The community wide ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10 at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Barnesville Library on Thomaston Street. The event is sponsored annually by the local American Legion and VFW posts and their auxiliaries on an alternating basis. As is customary, a list of veterans who have died over the past year will be read at the service. If your family lost a veteran, particularly if their funeral was handled by a funeral home that is not local, call 678.544.6110 or 770.468.0068 to make sure their names are included on the Honor Roll. Thomaston and various other streets will be closed at about 5 p.m. for the mayhem and masses. Hardy family here for service Direct descendants of Benjamin Hill Hardy, Sr. (1867-1943) were here last week for the internment of the ashes of B.H. Hardy, III, 84, in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery. Hardy, Sr. was editor of the News- Gazette and the first ordinary when Lamar County was formed in 1921. Pictured (right) are B.H. The main event begins Saturday at 9 a.m. at Sum mers Field Park and walk ers from multiple teams will walk laps around the park until the event closes at 9 a.m. Sunday. The opening ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. fol lowed by the survivor and caregiver lap. The bell cer emony is set for 7:30 p.m. with the solemn luminaria ceremony beginning at 10:30 p.m. A Hearts for Heather event will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to benefit Heather Bunn, a two-time breast cancer survivor and wife of Milner police chief Lamar Bunn. For more information, call 678.572.7723. Book sale set Nov. 4 The Barnesville library will host its fall book sale and basket raffle Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m.-noon. Book lovers can fill a milk box full of books for $5.The Barnesville-Lamar County Friends of the Li brary Fabulous Fall Raffle Basket will also be held at the fall book sale from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20 and can be purchased at the library. Festival of Scarecrows Saturday The Festival of the Scarecrows will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 3 p.m. around the fountain in downtown Barnesville. Stroll through downtown and visit with all the scarecrows created by members of the com munity. Local clubs and citizens are also using this op portunity to raise funds that, in turn, benefit the community. The 4-H club will sell cotton candy, the Boys & Girls Club will offer apple cider and boiled peanuts and popcorn are also being sold to raise funds for charity. Families are invited to enjoy handmade fall games, activities and treats.
