When a life in ended our sym pathy turns to those who loved Lest the silver cord Giut is loosed and the golden howl broken. And when the man of God stood by the coffin of little George McDowell by divine inspiration he caught up shreds <>f the silver cord and bound the fragments of the golden bowl and so filled ii with comfort that all hearts were turned with a sad, sweet joy to their treasures laid up in Heaven. This young life was a sacrifice, ilis invalid mother clung to his un- I faltering devotion as the dearest ! earthly comfort of her widowhood and when h< was told that the same fatal disease had clutched his own lungs he said, “I only did my duty and 1 am not sorry jof it.” And tints oftentimes uncon scious herves fall at our side in the battle of life and we know them not. George and his little sister sis ters lost their parents in early childhood but the four little orphans have had faithful friends. No nobler woman ever took a dying mother’s charge than their “Aunt Tee,” and they loved her even as they loved their mother. And God, in his tender mercy, ■ has spared them another friend who knows no sacrifice too great for their good. For more than a year the little orphan boy’s life has been ebbing away under his grandmother’s loving care. Five times I have known her to watch her loved ones go through the valley of the shadow of death and she taught how sublime a thing it is to suffer and be strong. ! I love best these noble lives that have not ended and I catch an inspiration from their Christ-like beauty. I never knew in song or story a more touching incident that happened at the home where the death Angel hovered Monday night. The little invalid always waked and called his grandmother at midnight and when that time, came she entered the chamber of death and sat beside the still, cold form. She was urged to come away and seek rest but she shook her head anil replied, “Don’t dis turb me, Eva, for this is the last time I shall come to my darling.” The good arc better made by ill, As odors crushed are sweeter still.” Sarah r, reeves. WHOOPING COUGII. A woman who has had experience with the disease, tells how to prevent any dahgerous consequences from it. She fays: Our three children took whooping cough last summer, our baby boy being only three months old, and owing to giving them Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy, they lost none of their plumpness and came out in much bet ter health than other children whose parents did not use this remedy. Our oldest little girl would call lustily for cough syrup between whoops.—Jessie Pinkney Hall, Springfield, Ala. This Remedy is for sale by Jno. H. Blackburn'. Buys SwuM* Building. The Boy Preacher Here Metz Joyner, the wonderful boy preacher, was here this week and delivered several sermons in the opera house. Large crowds went out to listen to the words of wisdom as they fell from.the lips of this small, but wonderful messenger of the gospel. He preached several instructive ser mons and was accorded good at tention on the part of his hearers. He is one of a very few preachers of his age on this continent and never fails to draw a crowd where ever he goes. A Helpless Child. A weak and puny child is badly handicapped in the battle of life.
