At the close of the dramn,
.“Esmeralda,” at the auditoriiun
last Wednesday evening there were
several medals uwarded, which
brought to u happy close one of
the best commencements ever held
bv Gordon Institute.
In t he .Sophomore speakers and
readers contest, the medals were
awarded to Mr. Ed Howard, and
Miss Rosa Hammond. The Perdue
medal, which is now given by Mr.
W. 11. Smith, for the best compo
sition by any member of the
senior class, was won by Mr. War
ren Woodward.
In behalf of the present senior
class. Rev. F. It. Graves presented
to President Oliphant a beautiful
gold badge, as a token of love and
appreciation.
The drama, “Esmeralda,” was
splendid and all of the performers
did great credit to themselves. It
was one of the host entertainments
, ver presented by the school.

gia; Dr. E. B. Andrews, of Nebraska; Rev. Frank Dixon, of Connecticut; Mr. J, William
Macy, of New York; Prof. J. E. Woodland, of New York; Hon. Henry L. West, of Washing

TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.
An Inter-County Teachers’ Institute will be
held in connection with the Chautauqua. About
a dozen counties will combine in this work.
Besides the regular experts, a contract lias
already been closed with Prof, E. E. Utterback,
probably the most notable directors of matiuel
couth, will hove charge of this department of
work. It will he a rare opportunity for the
teachers of Georgia. This is a subject which is
receiving attention from the leaning educators
and statesmen of America. Prof. Utterbsek
will demonstrate what Manual Training realty
is, the position it should occupy audits true
function as a factor in education. He will have
drawing, painting, modeling, construction in
paper, cardboard sewing and weaving. It is
also practically certain that a Professor from
John Hopkins University will deliver several
lectures on physiology, and will he illustrated
w ith life-size nianaknis and other drawings and
charts, so as to make them plain and yet
attractive. Tne examinations lor teachers’
license now includes quisrmns on Physiology
and this science must be taught ill all public
schools. These lectures me therefore timely
and of inestimable value.
