The mother who would he horri
fied at the thought of letting her
daughter wander away to a strange
country without guide or counsel,
yet permits her to enter that
unknown land of womanhood
without counsel or caution. Then
in utter ignorance, the maiden
must meet physical problems whose
solution will affect her whole fu
ture life. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite
Prescription has been well named
a “God-send to women.” It cor
rects irregularities and imparts
such vigorous vitality to the deli
cate womanly organs, as fit them
for their important functions.
Many a nervous, hysterical,
peevish girl has been changed to a
happy young woman after the use
of “Favorite Prescription” has
established the sound health of
the organs peculiarly feminine.
Every woman should own a copy

A SAD DISAPPOINTMENT.
Ineffective liver medicine is a disap
pointment, but you don’t want to purge
strain and break the glands of the
stomach and bowels. DeWitt’s Little
Early Risers never disappoint. They
cleanse the system of all poison and
putrid matter and do it so gently that,
one enjoys the pleasant effects. They
are a tonic to the liver. Cores bilious
ness, torpid liver and prevents fever.

Not Good on the N. P.
Talking of railroad mistakes, this
is one of the latest stories told by
J. J. 11 ill, president of the Northern
Pacific: A station, agent on that
road had been granted leave of ab
sence for the purpose of getting
married. The usual passes for the
happy couple had been issued from
the main office. On the trip the
agent met anew conductor, who de
manded his ticket.
“I have a pass,” replied the agent,
handing out an envelope.
The conductor read it very sol
emnly and, handing it hack, said
with a shake of the head:
“Gee, man, that pass is good for a
very long and it may be a very fine
journey, but not on the N. IV'
It turned out that the agent had
put his pass and his marriage cer
tificate in the same envelope and
the conductor had taken out the
former.

It would appear that Russia is de
termined to run every profitable
business by the state. The govern
n ent has a monopoly of transporta
tion, has pre-empted the spirit in
dustry and muy ut any time seize
the tobacco trade. The state regu
lates wages, grants or refuses rights
to work for precious and base min
erals and to obtain fuel—in fact,
leaves to the individud little but
the cultivation of the soil and the
raising of stock. The cry is, “Sibe
ria is rich and Siberia is for us Rus
sians alone!” and the state answers,
not in words, but in deeds, “SilieriM
is for the Russians and shall be rich
by administrative order.” The pio
neer finds gold or strikes oil, then
the pioneer is ousted and his field of
operations reserved exclusively for
exploitation by the state when and
as the state may deem it expedient
to act. No one questions the right;
many criticise the policy.—Outlook.
