An'Appropriate Text. An amusing occurrence took place in in a Baptist church in Now London, Conn., when Dr. Wrightman, in his denomination, was its pastor. One Sabbath morning a stran ger was in the pulpit with Dr. Wrightman. The latter, after conducting the usual devotional exercises, introduced the stranger as Rev. Mr. Smith. And that gentleman, rising promptly, with out mentioning chapter and verse announced as his text: “Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.” After the services Mr. Smith asked Dr. Wrightman why the congregation appeared to be amused when the text was an nounced.—Ex. Youth is the season, the era of hope that is said to spring eternal in the human breast. Whfy is it that so many young men —just stepping out on the threshold of every day life —have deliberately determined to quench the vital sparks in their own lives, ■either by pistol balls or poison? K The percentage of suicide must .be immense when so much appears in our own local papers to startle and horrify us. Perhaps there is really nothing but a sense of God’s protection and the resignation which comes from a realization of God’s prom ise t 4) comfort in deep trouble which curbs the despair of the ma jority of poor disappointed natures —and as we see it, the mission of the modern church is to investi gate more fully and clearly and find out the needs of young men', especially to repeat words of cheer and consolation, in a time of sore trial. Has the cigarette habit made these poor young men unusually despondent and despairing? We know that the drink habit will sap a man’s energy and precipitate his nature into fits of despondency, and oftentimes make him incline to suicide, but all suicides are not drunkards, and drink is not always the only cause as daily reported in the public prints. Ttys preva lence of the suicide mania is really alarming. It is of sufficient mag nitude to arrest not only the min istry but every organization in the land. It certainly should arrest the earnest attention of the motherhood of our own section. —Ex. ONE MINUTE COUGH CURE Is the only harmless cough cure that gives quick relief.
