Mrs. Zada Brown Dies.
Wednesday evening of last
week, after a lingering illness
with consumption, Mrs. Zada
Brown departed this life, leaving
many saddened hearts among her
friends and relatives. She was
a Miss Dumas, sister of Prof. W.
T. Dumas, now of Sparta, and
Mrs. W. H. Willis, of this city.
She was a member of the Metho
dist church and was a woman
noted for her Christian virtues.
Mrs. Brown had lived in Bartles
ville nearly all of her life, and
had hundreds of strong friends
among the people of the communi
ty.
The funeral services were held
in the Baptist church last Tluirs- i
day, the sermon being preached
by Rev. J. N. Snow, pastor of the
Methodist church, of which she
was a member. The sympathy of
the people is extended the sorrow
ing loved ones.
Doing Big Business.
Messrs. Baird & Hunt are do
ing well in their new wholesale
business. They are selling stacks
of corn, oats, etc.
They are just now making a
special run on ear corn, several
cars of which have been sold. A
car has just been shipped then by
their dealer, who writes that it is
the finest car that he lias ever
shipped out, and Messrs. Baird &
Hunt are fortunate is securing
such a good line of stuff.
Both of these gentlemen are ex
cellent men, and have lots of
friends in this section.
Mr. J. B. Bevil Dead.
Mr. J. IL Bevil, an old and
highly respected citixen of this
county, died at the home of his
son-in-law, Mr. J. B. Ballard,
near Zebulon, Tuesday night last.
He was*7B years of age and w'as
taken sick last Friday after at
tending the burial of his son,
Oscar, who died of pneumonia
after a very short illness. The
funeral and interment ochuvred
Wednesday in the Second district,
near Hope, Ga., conducted by Rev.
J. A. Wright.
Mrs. A. G. Janes Dead.
Death called Mrs. A. G. Janes
very suddenly last Wednesday
night. She passed away at her
home on Brown avenue, her de
mise being due to apoplexy.
Her body was shipped to Macon
Friday morning for interment.
She was survived by her husband,
who is a traveling salesman of the
Griffin Grocery Cos.
During • her residence in this
city she has made a number of
friends and in their behalf we ex
tend sympathy to the bereaved
family.
Mrs. Arnold Will Entertain Them
Miss Annie W. Armstrong, of
Buitimore and Mrs. T. D. Easter
lin, of Marrietta, Ga., representing
the Missionary work of the Baptist
women of the South, will he in the
city Friday and wilJ he entertain
ed Friday afternoon by Mrs. W.
W. Arnold at her home on Elm
street. All the lady members of
the Baptist church will he present
to meet these two ladies and to
hear them discuss the work to
which they are giving their lives.
It will doubtless be quite an en
joyable occasion.
Daughters of the Confederacy.
The Daughters of Confederacy
are requested to meet at the home
of Mrs. L. K. Rogers on Friday,
afternoon at 2:110 o’clock, Feb.;
20th. Business of importance'
\v ill he transacted and a full at
tendance is desired.
Will Hold Bazaar.
The Methodist will hold their
bazaar, for the purpose of buying
a pipe organ for the new church,
during the first week in March.
Mr. Chas, T. Tyler is daily re
ceiving articles of various kinds
from the people and it is said that
nearly everything necessary to the
wants of mortal man can he sup
plied at this institution, which
will be open during the first week
in March.
Everybody should patronize
them when they open up and be as
liberal as possible towards this
cause which is a worthy one and
when the instrument, is installed
everybody will be the recipients
of the benefits derived from a
thing of this kind.
Turner*Carriker.
Miss Aannie Mae Turner and
Mr. Pink Carreker were united in
the bonds of matrimony last Sun
day at the home of the bride’s
parents in Upson county near
Del Ray, Rev. W. H. Grahm per
forming the ceremony in the pres
ence of a few friends and relatives.
This young couple has a number
of friends and relatives in this
city and on the part of these we
extend the best wishes for a long
life of happiness and success.
Valentine Drawing.
Avery pleasant affair was the
valentine drawing held last Friday
night at the home of Mr. W. D.
Graham, on Brown avenue. The
guests were entertained for quite
awhile with various amusements,
after which a delightful course of
refreshments was served to those
assembled, who pronounced the
occasion an unusually pleasant
one and were loud in their praise
of the entertainment.
Barnesville Boy Honored.
A signal honor was paid one of
our Barn sville boys when Mr.
Walter Marshburn was elected
toastmast.cwif the Sopohmore ban
quet of the University of Georgia
held at the Imperial hotel in
Athens Friday night, February
Bsth.
Mr. Marshburn was chosen out
of a class of one hundred and this
is an evidence of his merit and
the esteem in which he is held by
his classmates. He is taking the
lead in his class at the university.
It will be remembered that, he
is a son of Mr. V. 0. Marshburn
of this city and graduated from
Gordon Institute last year, making
a fine record and was cadet major
of the battalion. We are glad to
chronicle his success at the unni
vers ity.
Pine Mountain Springs
Hotel Burned.
The hotel at Pine Mountain
Springs owned by Dr. J. M. Head,
of Zebulon, and valued at about
SB,OOO was burned last Wednesday
night by an incendiary, whose
barefoot tracks were followed to
within a short distance of the
home of Mrs. S. G. Pope. It was
partly covered by insurance. The
hotel was comparatively new and
was becoming one of the leading
resorts of the state. Dr. Head
has lost about $15,000 in fires
within the last eight years. He
lias not yet decided to rebuild but j
will probably do so.

Wilkinson, who has moved the
remainder of his stock to tho
building once occupied by Mr.
Joe Reeves further down the
street.
