The election for mayor, aider men and dispensary commissioner was held Tuesday, the time ap pointed by law, and it was an unusually quiet election. There was no opposition to the parties who were elected and hence a full vote was not polled. There was deep interest felt but as it was all one way people put themselves to no extra trouble to cast their ballots. However, people of the city are unanimous in rejoicing over the result. Not only good men are elected for all the ofi'ices but it gave the people another opportunity of taking a hand in making up the dispensary com mission and another of Judge Reagan’s appointes is displaced. The following are the men elect ed Tuesday: For Mayor, T. W. Cochran. For Aldermen, D. L. Anderson, M. W. Smith, H. H. Gray. Fcr Dispensary Commissioner, W. C. Jordan. At the primary nomintion lie lei Monday vhich nominated the above the following members were elected as the City Executive com mitee for the next two yejp'ir-: W. J. Williamson, V. O. Marsh burn, W. C. Stafford, J. T. Mid dlebrooks, W. R. Mitchell. Sometime since at a meeting of citizens, Mr. Otis A. Murphey was nominated for mayor but under the law he was ineligible, being at present an alderman, and hence his name was withdrawn. The ticket as elected is a thor oughly representative one and its election gives great satisfaction to the people of the city, rhey will be installed on September Bth. Benton as a Banker. Mr. L. O. Benton, of Monticello, president of the First National Bank, of Barnesville, is establish ing a fine reputation as a banker and business man. Speaking of the organization of the Greens boro National Bank, which Mr. Benton has recently undertaken, the Greensboro Journal-Herald, has the following to say: “Mr. L. O. Benton, the new executive, is a man whose financial judment is not open to doubt, he being already the real and official head of a number of prosperous banks which are doii.g good in the South. These are the Morgan County Bank, of Madison, Ga., the Bank of Covington, the First National Bank, of Barnesville, the Bank of Cedartown, the Woodbury Banking Company Cos., the Adrian Banking Company, the Bank of Lyons, the Bank of Doerun, the Bank of Eatonton and the Bank of Homerville. In his official work he has displayed a liberal spirit— a desire to make his banks truly efficient as business facilities and that he has achieved his object no one conversant with his past will question. Barbecue a Success. The big barbecue at Meansville last Saturday, given for raising funds to aid in building a school house, was quite a success and about S3OO was realized. A contract lias been let with the Gresham Planing Mill Com pany, of Griffin, for remodeling and in.proving the Baptist church of Bartlesville which will cost about SSOOO. Nearly all of this sum will be extended on interior work. Many important changes will be made in the auditorium of the church, stained glass windows put in, a new rostrum added, a dome made over head in the center and a steam heating equipment put in. The church will be greatly im proved and beautified. The magnificent pipe organ, now being built at a cost of si{(X)o, is a gift to the church by Mr. Jackson G. Smith. Work is to tngin at once and it is to be finished in ninety duys These improvements will certain ly make it one of the most beau tiful churches in Georgia. Miss Colbert Entertains at The Rock. Miss Marie Annie Colbert en tertained last Friday evening in honor of her attractive guest, Miss Sarah Colbert, of Culloden. Trix, muggins and many othef popular and interesting games were enjoyed until a late hour, when delicious refreshments were served Miss Colbert received her guest in a dainty and becoming dress of white. The guest of honor looked her best in white with dainty white ribbon. Those who enjoyed Miss Col berts hospitality were: Misses Nannie C. Kitchens, Nettie Daniel, Clyde Black, Pearl Black, Bessie Middlebrooks, Annie Middle brooks, of Yatesville, Miss Col bert, of Culloden, Miss Head, of Barnesville. Messrs. Perry Daniel Luther Harmon, Corneile Marchman, Bob and Aile Middlebrooks, Ben Andrews, Emmette Black, Charles Black and Otis Roberts, of Yates ville. A Guest. A New firm.
