Burr=Corey.

from Fort Valley will he of special
■interest to Barnesville people:
t “Announcement is made of the
approaching marriage of Miss
Clifford Burr, of Barnesville, to
Mr. D. W. Corey, of Presquye,
Me., which will occur at this
place December 0.
Miss Burr is a daughter of the
late S. B. Burr, who resided here
a good many years, and was loved
and respected by everybody who
knew him. lie was living in
Barnesville at the time of his
death, since- which time Miss
Burr lias resided in Atlanta and
Barnesvill •, and is known through
out the state.
Her many friends hcie are re
joiced that she is coming to her
old home to he married.
Mr. Corey is a prosperous eom
j mission man, a partner in the firm
iof Carter & Corey, of New Yo.k
j city, snd while here in the inter
est of his house has made many
friends both on account of his
estimable character and Imsi ie*s
ability.
Immediately alter the marriage
they will leave for Muir.e, where
Mr. Corey’s business takes him.
Miss Clifford Burr, whii • she
has been itwav from this city the
greater part of the time the past
year, is one of its most popular
young people. Site has those fine
traits of character that have en
deared her to everybody tliat came
within the-circle of her acquain
tance. Few'young ladie-of Bartles
ville have been as universally
loved and admired as has been
Miss Burr. The marriage will no
doubt be a very elaborate and
beautiful affair and the hosts of
friends extend congratulations
and te st wishes to the contract

ANI) SENTENCE.
Pike Superior court had a busy
session last week at Zebulon and
the jail was emptied of its prison
ers, the entire we.ik being occu
pied with the criminal business,
Burt and Paul Jenkins, of
Barnesville, were tried for the
killing of Steli Fletcher in this
city several months ago. Af the
time it was stated that Walter
Blalock killed Fletcher while the
Jenkins negroes hold him and
hence they were tried for his mur
der. Bud was found guilty with
a recommendation for mercy
while Paul was found not guilty.
Bud was given a sentence of life
emprisonment and it is hoped
that lie will be kept there for
many years at least, as he has
been a constant source of trouble
to the white people and to his own
race.
Sandy Dickinson was another
negro who was tried for murder,
he having killed three negroes at
Williamson some months ago. It
will be remembered that be got
into some trouble with [several
negroes and began to unload on
them, killing three and letting
one escape, through no fault of
bis effort to kill him however.
Sandy was found guilty and lie
too got a recommendation to the
mercy of the court, thus saving
his neck but going up for life.
There were a number of other
cases of less importance tried and
disposed of at the adjourned
term.

The marriage of Miss Ezra
Rebecca Goggan and JVIr. F. Os
good Mayliew was solemnized at
the home of the bride in Goggans
ville, Ga., last Wednesday after
noon at 4:80 o’clock. Rev. John
Q. Watts, of Rome, officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Mayhaw left imme
diately after the ceremony for
Jacksonville, Fla., and after De
cember I will make their ho the in
Atlanta.
Mrs. Mayliew as Miss Goggans,
the daughter of Mr. W. J. Goggans
who is well known throughout
this section, had a great many
friends all .of whom join in hearty
congratulations.
Flinch Club Met.
, (In latft Wednesday afternoon,
Miss Alma Murphey entertained
the Forsyth Street Flinch Club,
just about a dozen ladies being
present.
After a few games of progres
sive flinch were played.
M rs. A. H. English won the
first orizi*—a beautiful white silk
collar, Mrs. Shi Gray won the
other prize.
After which dainty refresh
ments were served.
