COL TURNER'S OEATH.
1 In the death of Col. C. A. Tur
ner, in Macon last week, the state
lost one of its ablest lawyers and
purest and best men. He was
well known in Bartlesville and
his death caused much sorrow
here among his relatives and
friends.
I Col. Turner was born in Bar
nesville, Ga., May 1. 1849, it
tended the Hillyer School of For
syth, Ga., during his youth, and
irotn there went to the University
of Georgia during the years of
1860 and 1870. For one- year he
taught school at Lithoma. Ga.,
and then formed a partnership in
law with Tom Cabinese, of For
syth. He afterwards became a
member of the law lirni of Berner
tfe Turner, which for a long time
: held an enviable reputation
j throughout middle Georgia. For
a short time during the year 1887
he was pastor of the Baptist
j church of Quitman, Ga.
j Coming to Macon in 1888, Mr.
Turner began practicing law with
Mr. W. B. Willingham, now of
Atlanta. In 1890 he became a
member of the firm of Harde
man, Da”is & Turner, and he re
mained a member ot that success
ful firm till it was dissolved at
the beginning of this year, when
! lie became Mr. Davis’ partner in
the firm of Davis & Turner.
In 1871 Mr. Turner was mar
ried to Miss Mattie Asbury, the
daughter of Professor Asbury, of
Forsyth, Ga., who was at that
time the president of Monroe col
lege. Mr. Turner is survived by
his wdfe and two daughters, Miss
es Mattie T. and Lou Reid Tur
ner.
When Mr. Turner carried his
first case to the supreme court of
Georgia in Atlanta Judge Bleck
ley, in commenting on a certain
action of Mr. Turner’s where the
attorney for the plaintiff frankly
conceded a point in question to
his opponents, paid one of the
highest tributes ever paid to a
Georgia lawyer. He said in part:
“To yield a false position a*
soon as it is discovered to be false
argues true professional man
hood. Nothing but truth, or what
is believed to be true, is worthy 7
to be championed by a lawyer.”
FEARFUL ODDS AGAINST HIM.
Bedridden, alone and destitute.
Such, in brief was the condition of an
old soldier by name of J. J. Havens.
Versailles, O. For years lie was trou
bled with Kidney disease and neither
doctors nor medicines gave him re
lief. At length he tried Electric Bit
ters. It put him on his feet in short
order and now he testifies. “I’m on
the road to complete recovery.” Best j
on earth for Liver and Kidney troubles I
and all forms of Stomach and Bowel
Complaints. Only 50c. Guaranteed
by D. L. Anderson Druggist.
Advantages.
“Do you not think,” the student
of social problems was asking, “that
the lack of fortuitous advantages
rather than inborn wickedness is re
sponsible for most of the?e men be
ing here?”
The warden of the prison inclined
his head. “Beyond a doubt," he an
swered earnestly. “There is hardly
a thief in my charge who with wealth
and position and culture might not
have been a kleptomania**."
