APPEAL FOR THE
PROHIBITION LAW
We truly regret that the evil
forces are now making a plea for
light wines and beer. That only
means anew call to us who fought so
valiantly for prohibition, to plead at
the throne of grace and work more
than ever. This is also a reminder
of the example of when Jesus wa3
"led by the spirit up into the moun
tain to pray" to seek anew the will
of his Father. Satan was there to
tempt him to sin and thereby lose his
divinity and the holy place which his
Father had given him.
We have been made to wonder why
and how some of our citizens and
judges can appreciate so little the
great results that the prohibition law
has accomplished. They yielded to
the tempter’s siren words and failed
to say "get thee behind me Satan.”
If the law is not strong enough,
make it stronger so it can not be
broken, if possible, and never use
one single thought or word to make
the law weaker.
Women have suffered more from
the curses of drink than men and
they should rise in their true wo
manhood and by word, influence and
vote cast out the "demon drink” and
all of its imps.
When we see women so indifferent
to their blessed privileges we can but
say, “Awake, thou that sleepest and
arise from the dead and Christ shall
give thee light.”
To fully arouse women and men
from their self satisfied negligence of
duty requires the great awakening
power of God: his spirit and love
only can take away sin and purify
their minds and hearts and give them
light and life and liberty.
The lamented and greatly loved
Miss Frances Willard said: “Re
member that only the golden rule of
Christ can bring the golden age of
man."
What are you doing for Christ?
What are you doing for humanity?
May we be fully aroused to our
privileges and work in helping hu
manity as we pass along this earthly
pilgrimage.

CALOMEL SALIVATES
AND LOOSENS TEETH
THE VERY NEXT DOSE OF THIS
TREACHEROUS DRUG MAY
MAY START TROUBLE.
You know what calomel is. It’s
mercury; quicksilver. Calomel is
dangerous. It crashes into sour bile
like dynamite, cramping and sicker •
Ing you. Calomel attacks the bones
and should never be put into your
system
If you feel bilious, headachy, con
stipated and all knocked out, just
go to your druggist and get a bot
tle of Dodson’s Liver Tone for a
few cents which is a harmless vege
table substitute for dangerous calo
mel. Take a spoonful and if it
doesn’t start your liver and straight
en you up better and quicker than
nasty calomel and without making
you sick, you just go back and get
your money.
Don’t take calomel! It makes you
sick the next day; it loses you a
day’s work. Dodson’s Liver Tone
straightens you right up amt you feel
great. No salts necessary. Give it
to the children because it is perfect
ly harmless and can not salivate.
WALKER—WINTERS
Greenville, Ala., July I.—Mrs.
Margaret Grogan Walker and Bert
Winters, of West Palm Beach, Fla.,
were quietly married at the home of
the bride’s parents, Dr. and Mrs.
James O. Grogan in this city yester
day afternoon.
Only a few close relatives were in
attendance. The impressive service
was said by Dr. Grogan, the bride’s
father.
Immediately after the wedding
they left for Cincinnati and other
points of interest their return
to their home at West Palm Beach
in July.
During the past year Mrs. Winters
has resided in the Florida city, but
before going there she resided in
Montgomery, where she is widely
known.
Mrs. Winters is the oldest daugh
ter of Dr. and Mrs. Grogan, and by
her gracious charm of manner and
many fine traits of character she has
endeared herself to many loving

Translations of Poe.
.... It appears from the biography
appended to the definitive edition of
Poe that between 1890 and 1895 there
were made at least ten translations of
his works in various foreign lan
guages. What could have brought
about such a remarkable result? In
a word, it must be Poe's unique genius
—his intense originality, which has
hardly been paralleled In literary his
tory, and his indefinable, inimitable
Charm of manner, which appeals not
simply to men of one particular clime
or country, but to all men everywhere.

Many Races Claim Boone.
From any Investigation of the leg
ends and facts of the past it now
appears that the identity of an In
dividual even so well known as Daniel
Boone Is not to be ascertained easily.
There was apparently an English
Boone, a pure Irish one, a German one,
and two or three more representing
other nationalities. It is Just a ques
tion of time and a little more investi
gation and we may hear of # Scandi
navian Daniel Boone, a Greek, an Arab

Pope’s Artificial Taste.
Even In his letters. Pope depicts
scenery with a very cool admiration;
and never seems to associate it with
any sentiment of moral interest.
Where anything of this appears, it is
borrowed. The taste of Pope was evi
dently artificial to the last degree. He
delighted in a grotto decked out with
looking-glass and colored stones, as
much as Wordsworth in a mountain
path, or Scott in a border antiquity.—

Quenched Love Affair.
When I was in the third grade In
school I was quite “crazy” about a
boy who sat across the aisle from me.
One Monday morning, a few minutes
before the 9 o’clock bell rang, I was
sitting in seat studying. The boy
came into the room. He walked up to
my desk and said: “Say. Mary, Satur
day Howard and I went fishing £<hd
I caught a fish that lohg,” and as he
threw out his hand, he slapped me
across the face. And so ended my
first lore affair.—Exchange.

The Oldest Language.
The Chinese language is unquestion*
ably the most ancient spoken, and, with
the exception of Hebrew, is the most
ancient written language. It is also
one of the most difficult to learn. As
an illustration, the letter “I” in tha
Chinese language is said to have 145
different ways of being pronounced—
and, moreover, each has a different
meaning.
Popular Government.
Popular government has been usually
sought and won and valued not as a
good thing in itself, but as a means of
getting rid of tangible grievances or
securing tangible benefits, and when
those objects have been attained, the
interest in it has generally tended to
decline. —Lord Bryce.
