Tribute to Mr. Overstreet
Mr. J. C. Overstreet, whose body
was brought here for burial last week,
died August 14, at his home at White
Springs, Fla., where he had lived for
a number of years. He was a Geor
gian by birth, having been born and
reared near Savannah. When only
a young man he went to Florida and
fought in the Civil War with the
Florida volunteers.
Mr. Overstreet first married a Miss
Strickland. One son was born to
them—this son with all the promise
of the future met a tragic death.
In 1889 Mr. Overstreet was mar
ried to Miss Annis Middlebrooks of
this community and for five years
they made their home near this city,
the other years were spent in Dade
City, Fla., and White Springs, Fla.
Mr. Overstreet is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. W. E. Spencer of
White Springs, Fla., with whom he
has made his home since the death of
his wife, and Mr. J. P. Overstreet in
the U. S. Army in Texas.
Mr. Overstreet was a member of
the Methodist church and until his
health failed was a regular attendant
at the services. At the time of his
death he was over 80 years old.
The body arrived on the afternoon
train, and with a short service held
by Rev. B. H. Trammell, was laid to
rest in the family lot in Greenwood
cemetery.
He has joined the others gone be
fore and waits with them up there
with outstretched arms to those he
loved. He says “Come un and join
us here.” A FRIEND.
CARD OF THANKS
For ourselves and in behalf of Mr.
and Mrs. W. E. Spencer of White
Springs, Fla., and J. P. Overstreet of
Texas, we wish to thank the many
friends for the kindnesses shown us
in the recent passing away of Mr. J.
C. Overstreet.
