DID SURPRISINGLY
LARGE BUSINESS
Mr. V. O. Marshbum states that
he has been surprised and very much
gratified at the result of the special
sale he put on at the Marshbum
store recently. The volume of cash
business far surpassed what he was
expecting considering the existing
conditions.
Quite a number of days since the
sale began the store has been crowd
ed with people from the surrounding
sections, many of them coming from
long distances to make purchases of
articles advertised. In fact, the
first day or two of the sale it was
impossible to wait on all who tried
to trade there, which is quite unusual
in these times.
Mr. Marshbum will continue the
sale for some days and it is likely
that the low prices he is making will
induce many other3 to trade there
during the next few days.

How Better Than Pill*?
The question has been asked: In
what way are Chamberlain’s Tablets
superior to the ordinary cathartic
and liver pills? Our answer is, they
are easier and more pleasant to take
and their effect is so gentle that one
hardly realizes that it is produced by
a medicine. Then, they not only
move the bowels but improve the ap
petite and strengthen the digestion.

backache and was troubled with dis

the small of my back felt like a knife
sticking me. I had a heavy, dull ache
across my kidneys and the action of
my kidneys was not natural. I felt
weak and tired and my housework
became a burden. I began to use
Doan’s Kidney Pills and they cured
me of the trouble.”

BILL OF SALE
TO TWO NEGROES
One of the interesting features of
the Milner community exhibit at the
recent Lamar County Fair was a bill
of sale to two negroes, bearing date
of December 22, 1819, which paper
is now nearly 103 years old. The in
teresting paper is the property of
Mrs. T. J. Hunt of Milner and at
ti-acted a good deal of interest from
all who saw it. Tha naper is well
preserved. The following is a copy
of the contents of the paper:
Georgia, Jasper County, December
22, 1819.
Know all men by these presents,
that I. William A. Carr, of the coun
ty of Burke and state aforesaid, do
for and in consideration of the sum
of twelve hundred dollars to me to
be paid by William Head for which
he gives his note payable on the first
day of April, for which consideration
I do grant, bargain and sell unto
the said William Head of the county
of Jasper and state aforesaid two
negro fellows, a black one by the
name of Peter and a yellow com
plected one by the name of Stephen,
which boys I warrant and defend
from every and singular'the claims
of any person hnd also clear of all
infirmities.
WILLIAM CARR.
IN MEMORY OF
MR. J. B. P. MILNER
On Friday, October 6, 1922, the
death angel took away from us our
dear and beloved friend and citizen,
J. B. P. Milner. In his going away
a vacancy has been made, which hu
man hands cannot fill. The writer
knew him and can say that he was
instrumental in God’s hand in helping
and bringing joy and gladness to
many a poor and needy person.
His kindly acts and generous gifts
were not always made public. He
was very quiet and unassuming, look
ing after and attendiing to his busi
ness. He was apparently a man that
did not care to mix and mingle with
the public. But, if you knew him,
you found him to be very generous
and social in his manners.
Anyone in trouble or need always
received help and comfort from Mr.
i; Polk” Milner.
He was so much to me. I loved
him and may his life be an inspira
tion to us, to obtain the qualifica
tions that he possessed.
May God’s comforting care rest
and abide with his loved ones.
A FRIEND.
