Do You
Know?
that Royal Baking
Powder is made from
Cream of Tartar?
—that Cream of Tartar is de
rived from grapes-rich,ripe,
healthful grapes grown in
the famous vineyards of
southern France?
That is why Royal is so whole
some and healthful, why it
gives the food such a fine,
even texture and such a de
licious, appetizing flavor.

FACES AND SOULS
Teach your child to look people
squarely in the eye and to assume a
firm, positive, aspect of countenance
when conversing with others.
An expressive countenance is what
we desire in our children, a face sug
gesting character and individuality.
Study, thinking, and reflection on the
pu r pose of the lessons to be studied
and the things to be done will give
your child a serious and yet happy
facial expression. j
A Sense of worth, from being prop
erly appreciated, will tend to draw
the features of the young into come
liness. The baby face, the shrinking
countenance. and the “hang-dog” are
very common among early adoles
cents, and they all suggest a certain
tack of negativeness of training in
r elf-respect.
Even if your child is ordinary, he
is decidedly good for something.
Find out what his chief talent is—
even if it is only whistling a happy
tune—and praise him for it. Ex-

take on character.
Many young girls foolishly believe
that an interesting or beautiful face
can actually be created in the beauty
parlor. But such a countenance is
less interesting than a good plaster ,
cast. i
Intelligent people are all the while
looking for strong, expressive fea
tures, but such an attractive face has
to be grown through combined exer
cise of the mind and heart. “As one
thinketh in his heart so is he,” and
so also his face reflects the inner con
dition.
If your child's face can light up
with a smile when there is really
something to smile about, well and
good, but do not expect him to keep
his face constantly wreathed in
smiles. That looks soft and at times
silly.

ing, acting. Ad that calls for a
firm-set jaw and a positive face ,
not mere prettWAss. |
An interesting face is a face with
an idea behind it. Lights and
shadows alternately flash across the
vision when one is deeply in earnest.
Even anger may at times give the,
countenance a charming appearance,
if there is a righteous cause at stake.
Righteous indignation often wins ap
plause.
The point here aimed at is this:
Dissuade your child early from the 'j
idea that an interesting or attractive,
countenance is merely something to j
be put on —by a stretch of the fea-,
tures or a dash of “make-up. Teach
him rather that it is something to j
be put in—into the mind and heart
and grown outwardly as manly or
womanly expression.
Something within himself to be ap
preciated; something wor|h while to
do; something of value to talk about;
something of his own to explain or
contend for; something unselfish to
try to achieve; something daily out
of his unfolding life to give to the
miniature world about him —these
will trend to give your child a
strength and beauty *of countenance
that is far deeper and richer than
mere smiles. —William A. McKeever.

Skeleton Fouriu Witri Dagger in Ribs. 1
With a jeweled dagger thrust be- |
tween his ribs Just below the heart, j
the skelfon of a man was found in a
very ancient terra-cotta tomb by work
men while digging the foundations for
a villa at Xirmione, on the Lake of
Garda, Italy. Further excavations
brought to light other tombs of the
same kind. Xirmione, which in the
days of the Homan empire was a
favorite resort of wealthy Romans, is
now a fishing village on a narrow
promontory which projects into the
lake. In the neighborhood is the so
called Grotte di Catullo, the consid
erable remains of a Roman building
said to have been the country house
of Catullus, the famous lyric poet of
Rome.
