MR. JOHNJIEAD DIES
Mr. John B. Head, well known cit
izen of Milner, and for many years
justice of the peace in that district,
died at his home near Milner last
Saturday after a brief illness, al
though he had been rapidly failing
for the past year or two, and par
ticularly during the past year.
Air. Head was 69 years old and
long had been prominent in the af
fairs of his community and in Pike
and Lamar counties. He was a mem
ber of the Baptist church at Milner,
having joined that church in his early
manhood. He was also a Mason and
was prominent in that order.
Mr. Head was always active and
participated in affairs of public in
terest, always expressing his views
and opinions and standing for the
moral side of questions affecting the
g, neral welfare.
The funeral services, which were
largely attended* by friends and ac
quaintances of the Milner community
and surrounding sections, were held
Sunday morning at the Milner Bap
tist church, and were conducted by
his pastor. Rev. George F.. Brown, as
sisted by Rev. George D. Godard of
Milner, who had known Mr. Head for
many years. After these services
the Masons took charge and conduct
ed their service, which is always im
pressive, a large number of Masons
from the local and other lodges be
ing present.
The people throughout the county
and section extend their deepest sym
pathy to the bereaved family in their
keen sorrow.
Mr. Head is survived by his widow,
two sons, Guy and Eric Head, Milner;
three daughters, Mrs. O. V. Dumas
and Mrs. T. Dumas, Atlanta; and
Mrs. C. C. Robinette, Fort Valley;
one brother, James P. Head, of Wal
nut Springs, Texas; and one sister,
Mrs. Fannie Mcßride, Macon, Ga.

THE MONTH BEFORE
CHRISTMAS
(Apologies to “The Night Before
Christmas”)
'Tis the month before Christmas and
all through the land,
The Christmas Seals wait, a ptoud,
happy band,
For winter’s cold blasts they care
not a rap,
Nor a moment have to seize for a
nap;
For all around the world they piust
make such a clatter
That folks will all wonder what can
be the matter.
When shoppers for Christmas begin
to appear,
And thoughts are all centered on
Santa’s reindeer,
These busy little Seals get lively and
quick,
On all Christmas mail they SO want
to stick,
If you will but use them how happy
they’ll be,
They’ll all feel like dancing and
shouting with glee.
More rapid than eagles tfcey’ll come
if you’ll call
By spending for each a penny so
small;
If many you’ll use, the pennies will
mount
’Til the number of them will be hard
to count,
And the higher the pile of the pen
nies, you see,
The less will the hosts of T. B. germs
be.
Be sure then to stick on all of your
mail
The Seal of Good Health that you
find now on sale.
The money you spend will not be
a loss.
But will help the great cause of the
double-barred cross.
And the Seals will unite in wishing
for you
A most happy Christmas, and New
Year, too.
