can public, it sounds not a üßflPange
to listen to the doleful wailinfflii fore
ign journals in regard to the impending
ruin which is fast overtaking theEu
jopean fanners from the competition
of American grain. England, France
and Germany are consuruers of more
grain than is produced within their re
speetive borders. The supplies to make
up the deticiency have, until quite re-
ht**n drawn from Kgypt, Aus
tria aiui liussia, mainlv from the latter
country. But within the last decade
American wheat has liecome a formida
hie competitor for the European mark
et, and every year is making it more
so.
The Russian and Austrian journals
are taking up the subject and discuss
ing it in good earnest, as it seems that
notwithstanding the cheapness .of lalior
in those countries as compared with
the same commodity in America, and
notwithstanding the advantage of great
er nearness to the market, American
wheat can be sold in Europe, with a
fair margin of profit, 'at a price that
virtually prohibit* the sale of Russian
whoat except at a serious loss. The
more intelligent ol' the foreign writer*
on the subject have been making a care
fill investigation of the causes and find
them to be manifold. First and most
important of these causes is our per
fect system of transportation, by which
it appeal* that grain can be transported
from Chicago to Hamburg at a less
frieghtthan from Pestli Austria to tiie
line port. The next cause in the na
tural order is the improved machinery
for “cultivating and harvesting the
grain. The Russian peasant is still us
ing the primitive wooden plow and old
fashioned reaping hook which |was us
ed bv the Tartars in the (lav of Abra
ham.
Added to these caioes the cheaper
f< r u of government, the genera Is, intell
igence of the American people and the
cheapness and fertility of American
land all combine to overcome and neu
tralize the cheapness of foreign labor to
such au extent that the more ;keen and
far-seeing of the Russian journalists
dim that there can be no successful
competition with American farmers
except by Americanizing the whole
Russian system, im liuling the govern
ment. .Judged by tlnsesht* :ei. sjit

PLAIN
TRUTHS
The Wood is the foundation of
life, it circulates through every part
of the body, and unless it is pure
and rich, good health is impossible.
If disease has entered the system
the only sure and quick way to drive
it out is to purify and enrich the
blood.
These simple facts are well
known, and the highest medical
authorities agree that nothing but
iron will restore the blood to its
natural condition; and also that
all the iron preparations hitherto
made blacken the teeth, cause head
ache, and are otherwise injurious.
Brown’s Iron Bitters will thor
oughly and quickly assimilate with
the blood, purifying and strengthen
ing it, and thus drive disease from
any part of the system, and it will
not blacken the teeth, cause head
ache or constipation, and is posi
tively not injurious.
Saved his Child.
>7 N. Euuw St, Baltimore, Md.
, Feb. 12,1880.
Gents:—Upon the recommenda
tion of a friend I tried Brown's
Iron Bitters as a tonic and re
storative for my daughter, whom
I was thoroughly convinced was
wasting away with Consumption.
m Having lost three daughters by the
™ terrible disease, under the care of
eminent physicians, I was loth to
believe that anything could arrest
the progress of the disease, but, to
my great surprise, before my daugh
ter had taken one buttle of Brown's
Iron Bitters, she began to mend
and now is quite restored to turner
health. A fifth daughter began to
show signs of Consumption, and
when the physician was consulted
he quickly said “ Tonics were re
quired and when informed that
the elder sister was taking Brown's
Iron Bitters, responded “that is
a good tonic, take it."

DR. J. BRADFIELD’S
F em al Regulator!
W Oman’s Best Friend
It Is w ell known to physicians, and alas too
ell known to suffering women themselves, that
Tn subject to numerous diseases peculiar
to thmr sex, such as suppression of Menses, pain
ful and scanty .Menstruation, Congestion, Clcera
tlon and Falling ol Uie Womb, attended with an
endless train of sympathetic and constitutional
disorders, which i*|bitters the whole life, and
which have considered as almost in
curable. But at last the remedy has been round in
Dr. J. Bradfielti-s Female Regulator.
It Is not a “cure all, 'but a remedy for one class
of diseases, all of which pertain to the Womb.
Any sufferer from the diseases mentioned can
taxe this remedy and thus relieve herself with
out revealing her condition to any one, and with
out subjecting her womanly modesty to the
shcck of an examination by a physician.
To bring health and happiness to the homes of
suffering women is a mission before which royal
favor sinks into insignificance. What earthly
benefaction can compare with one which pro
tects from
“That dire disease whose ruthless power
Withers beauty's transient flower i”
which gives ease for pain, joy for sorrow, smiles
for teal's, the rose of health for the palor of dis
ease. the bight., elastic step for dragging weari
ness, nights of soft repose for heavy hours of tos
sing restlessness, bounding vigor for languisning
dullness, the svvtet lines of full grown beanty for
the sharp and withered form of emanelation. a
long Uie of mental, physical' social and domes
lc enjoyments for a few sad days or pain and
gloom, ending in anfcarly grave? Such is the
mission, such are theresults of Dr, J. Bradflelds
Female Regulator, which is hence truly aud ap
propriately styled “Woman’s Best Friend.”
“Whites,” and all those irregularities of the
womb so destructive to the health, happiness and
beauty of women, disappear like marie before a
single bottle of this wonderful co^wnd.
All who suffer from any of senses aie
mostearnestly invited to give tlusiKhedy a trial.
It has cured thousands, and will cure you. Don't
