The poor and oppressed office-holders who ■‘voluntarily’*gave Jay Hubbell, fiom 2 to 7 per cent of their salary for campaign purposes are [now 'clamoring for a debit and credit statement as to this fund. Hubbell extorted from them about fifty thousand dollars and the only results visible seem to be the Mahone Congressmen from Virginia, it is difficult to see what fair disposi tion could have been made of this im mense sum. it is but just to them that l hubbell should render an account, but he strenuously refuses to do so. An ex pose of the matter would set up a gen uine sensation no doubt. DEMOCRATIC PLOT. He says there was an idea sug gested of offering a resolution to im peach Kiefer for his partisan rulings, but such a thing as resorting 'jo force was never mentioned in a democratic caucus or meeting. dispatch from spring field Ohio -dates that it is thought the article was published and in part dictated by Kiefer, owing to its com plimentary character to him as speaker j of the House.
