It owes its origin to tlie success of the
Atlanta Exposition, and will be held
under the auspieeii of tbeN.-rtional Cot

ducement.” Air. F. C. Moivheod, Pre
sidentof this Association, that the
year IOT ft not mffrthe eaffffwt date by
which the extensive preparations nece.-i
--sitry for the undertaking could be com
pleted, but it may be considered above
all others a centennial year in the march
of American cotton toward the com-
manding position it now holds as a fac
tor in the world's commerce: for it was
in 1784 that a shipment of eight bags
id cotton was made from the country to
Kngland. where it was .seized by the
('ustom House officers on the allegation
that itcould not hiivebeen grown in the
l nited States and was liable to seizure
under tin- shipping acts as not being im
ported ina vessel belonging to the coun
ter of its growth! But the chief .signi
ficance attaching to this little shipment
arises from the fact that after having
laid for some time unsold in consequen
ce of the spinners doubthijg whether it
could be profitably worked up. one of
them more enterprising than the rest
(would tluii we knew his name) bought
it and ventured upon the experiment ef
spinning American cotton. The re
sult proved so satisfactory that the eul
i ture of cotton forthwith engage*l the at
tention of all Soulnerri agriculturists.
Of the character of the Exposition Mr.
Morehead says;
Every kind of machinery used in the
manufacture of cotton is expected to be
i exhibited in motion and at work just as
in the factory. The utmost importance
will be attached to exhibits of improv
ed plantation machinery and agricultur
al implements, and special inducements
will be offered wit h u view to placing be
fore the planters and farmers the most
approved appliances of suer ssftil divei
sihed fanning the encouragement and
; stimulation of which is one of the chief
; missions of ihe .National Cotton Fh*u-

' benefits hoped to lie derived from the
l proposed exposition.

This marvelous remedy cures those terrible head
aches, cleanses the stomach, unlosds the bowels,
unlocks the liver, relieves constipation at once, ana
gives the bile a chance to so. It has become tho
popular and standard remedy for constipation, bil
iousness, sick headache, heartburn, acid stomach,
and aii diseases requiring a real nice and pleasant
purgative or physic.
It never nauseates r., r gripes, acts in one or two
hours, and is jtint n delightful and refreshing a
drink, that everybody iikes'it.
It unclouds and cools the brain, quiets the nerves,
and is a rise qua r.ci for the headache of ladies.
ft mitigates the panes of rhenmatism and glut,
tel.eves kidney and urinary troubles, and pain la
he hack. For dyspeptics it acts like a charm, and
fas no eoual in curing a corutpatid habit. It is
highly recommended f r persons who travel, for
merchants, clerks, m, factory hands, stu
dents. teachers and all persons who lead a closelv
confined life and are si'jcct to headache,
and torpid bowels. If you are troubled with aB
coated tongue, foul breath, loss of appetite or gsoß
eral sluggishness, Bailey’s Saline Aperient will
you. It performs better work tnan pills, is more j
pleasant and palatable, nd is much cheaper, in fs-t '
it is a regular family medicine chest within itself.
It sparkles and foams just like a glass of soda
