Your most valuable medicine, (Swift’s Spo elrtc) lias done me so much good that I feel like saying this for the benefit of those who sutler like I did. I was poisoned by Poison Oak,and saw not a well day for six years, until I used Swift's Specific. In the six years I used al most eve i y kind of medicine, but none had the desired eneot. After vising six bottles of Swift's Speeifie lam restoredto perfect health —with not. a sign Of that awful poison left. Yours truly, DAVID NKSIUTT. POISON OAK. Ihn I f<e* thirty-eight years suffered every spring and summer with Poison Oak, which I contracted in bathhig when a boy. 1 tried ev erything for it. including runty phydeians, hm without nnyliemtit. I took six bottles of Swift’s Sped lie (S. s. S.) four rears ago, and it cured me sound and well. Three summers lmve passed and I haw had no rcrurn of it. JOSEPH .REAS LEY, Hohrmbus, Ha. Remarkable Results. I h ive had remarkable success with Swift’s Specific; have cured several cases permanent ly in a very short time. One ease which 1 am now treating:-was given up to die, and sifter using throe bottles is so far recovered that I think one more 'bottle will cure her. My position asteaclioyin Gordon] Institute during the last six and] halt years, and a rather extended trip during the present year through j gut West Pike, both combined, have enabled me to get acquainted with a.large majority of the hoys and'young men in Pike. To these .boys and young men, I wish to say a few plain, and friendly things, through the columns of the Ga zette. First it gives mo much pleasure to say that* L think a de cided majority of our young men are on the side of sobriety and mor ality. As 4 class too they are gen erally industrious and economi cal to a reasonable extent. In one community in the countv, out of t wenty young men there is only one exception to the above statements. A word now with you my young friends. Of course I wish you ev ery one to succeed in, life, and there fore I wish us to notice : lsp What is success? A man may. go-to the legislature, to eon .gress; may become Governor, or President, and yet ,be a failure. Again, a man may boa millionaire ami vet not succeed. What then is success? It. is doing just what God by our surroundings, has pointed out and, given : us to do. God espe cially fitted some men to !><■ farm ers, and they can S'.-ve tho in solves and serve the world most profitably by farming, fr’o sonic men succeed best as doctors, some as teachers, and so on. Just attbis point, many of our young men make serious mistakes, Nothing has more to do with a young man’s success in life than his engaging in the pursuit or profession for which nature has best fitted him. Many an ambi tmus pa;vnt has wrecked his boy by trying to make him a profes sional man when nature had ..titled him.lor.a farmer, or for some oth er avocation. One more fact on this subject, and. as the preachers say, 1 will leave the subject witli you. Tlu, only true honor or happiness comes from a faithful -performance of duty, and the quantify and qual ity of honor and happiness thus obtained is not dependent ppon the estimate Ilia! the world places upon a pursuit or profession. The faith fid blacksmith at his forge, is as much a hero as (he general , who leads the armies of his country to victory and to freedom. The far mer, following his plow, is engaged in as laudable work as is the Presi dent of.the i ailed States when at tending to the duties of his office. An orphan lmy ploughing a blind nude, or an ox, to support his wid owed mother and orphan brothers and sisters, ;s entitled to a crown with many stars, and he will get it, by and by, if he continues to tread the path of duty- True honors are foundronly in the path of duly ; all others arc. counterfeits. Sea rob for that path dills : Uly, young friends and get into.ii when .you ii ,<i if. W. Univcit.!•! Re ;...ing. This is ili <•' • ■ ’I v ;;n a; ■■ ■• of liiih g collections. You ask what wc"are toNlo about jit.. Stop taking collections', alto* I gethor?” No sir, not that. lam a missionary in faith and practice, l and wish home and foreign njis- I sions kept up. But cant wo get up j our missionary money with less public begging? I once had the* honor of belonging to a church that paid every dollar of its assessments for all purposes, year. after year, without a single public collection being taken up for years. The qfli eers of the church managed tho whole financial operations, and left the preacher to preach. As to the Woman's Missionary Society,,, I have this to say : That Society has done, and is doing, a great work, and has my most earnest wishes for its future weal, hut for our ladies ip de rive the greatest good from it,, they must follow the example of one. of our best BaynesyUle woiiion, who recently told me that she pays her society dues T>y making and sel ling butter. That’s, it. Personal ef fort, self denial and u personal blessing all come together. So about our children. Let them ac tually earn by honest work what they contribute for charitable purposes. A boy or girl deserves r.o credit for begging o niekle from his or her father and then dropping it info a contribution hat. As to endowing Cjollogeß, with money collected from thy people at large, 1 have two things to say. First, many persons solicited to give money to endow colleges vyitli, cant give.their own, children' more than a common school education, and i think, are under no obliga tion to help furnish a collegiate ed ucation tiye to the children-of 9>me one else. Secondly, I have very so rious doubts about the advisability of educating young men UtfKf of ' charge. In the first pi ace, to thus educate a v.oung man, to a consid erable extent* destroys bin indepen dence.' It starts him out ii; lift as ' a beneficiary. In die next place, if there,is true manhood, envmgh in a boy to make him some account with a good education* there is .pluckenough, in him to educate himself, it lie has to work a year, and then go to school a year. Ev ery true man in the world is a self made man. ,• ; „ finally, I believe in collections public if need be, private if possi ble, for all worthy objects; but I flunk we are “lifting” too many col lections- It has become a mania, and I fear a -curse... i Unwise giving may cultivate the grace of giving in the donor’s heart but it will endanger and support a spin! of indolence in the hearts of those receiving the gifts. Collections for so many things have become embarrassing and burdens, mic to many pers6iis, 'who most aoxiut! 1 v desire a. “rest” for a ■change. 5 w. Late Sowing.
