BARNESVILLE, GA.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. 98.
BARTLETT TALKS.
Congressman Bartlett has returned
from Washington where he went in
the interest of the soldiers at Camp
Northcn, and says that all who want
to be discharged will only have to ap
ply to the war department through
their officers and the discharge will
be granted.
The same officers who have been at
the schools at Barnesville and Mil
ledgeville will be sent back on the
first of October.
The secretary of war said the action
of Southern cities like Macon, Atlanta
and Barnesville in tendering the use
of sites for camping purposes free is
unusual, as it is the practice of cities
to make all they can out of the gov
mer.t for the use of camp sites.

ABOUT PROF. OLIPHANT.
The Greensboro Herald-Journal
speaks as follows of Prof. G. F. Oli
phant, who is now the vice president
of Gordon Institute:
“Almost everyone in Greensboro
was saddened by the announcement
that Prof. G. F. Oliphant had request
ed the Board of Trustees to release
him from his contract as Principal of
Thos. Stocks Institute. Prof. Oliphant
has been proffered the position of
Teacher of Natural Sciences in Gor
don Institute at Barnesville, which is
one of the best schools in the state
and deservedly popular. He will be
assistant superintendent of this mag
nificent school, and his connection
with it will afford him excellent op
portunity for further advancement in
his chosen profession. He was im
pelled by self interest to ask for release
here, and the Trustees of our school
reluctantly gave him up.
“During his residence in Greens
boro, Prof. Oliphant greatly endeared
himself to all, both as a gentleman
and as a teacher. He is thoroughly
competent in the school room, is de
voted to his calling, and has won the
affection of every scholar in the
school. And, while his departure will
be regretted by all, the children es
pecially will miss him. He has been
a kind, willing instructor and friend
to them; and his successor will not
have an easy task, to supplant him
in their affections. His good family
will also be greatly missed, and were
it possible, Greensboro to an indi
vidual would ask that he and they re
main with 11s. As that cannot be, one
and all join in the heartiest wishes for
their health and prosperity, and be
speak for them a hearty welcome to
their new home, which, by the way,
is near Thomaston, where they for
merly resided.
“The Trustees of the school have
contracted with Prof. J. W. Denntng
ton, of Yatesville, Upson county, to
succeed Prof. Oliphant, and he will
begin school Monday week, Septem
ber 12. Prof. Dennington is recom
mended by Prof. Oliphant as an ex
cellent gentleman and able instructor,
and that fact will insure him and his
good wife a cordial welcome.”
Does Baby
Thrive?
If your baby is delicate
and sickly and its food does
not nourish it, put fifteen
or twenty drops of Scott’s
Emulsion in its bottle three
or four times a day and you
will see a marked change.
We have had abundant
proof that they will thrive
on this emulsion when other
food fails to nourish them.
It is the same with larger
children that are delicate.
Scott’s Emulsion seems to be
the element lacking in their
food. Do not fail to try it if
your children do not thrive.
It is as useful for them in
summer as in winter.
Ask your doctor if this is not true.

New Music Teacher.
Mrs. E. J. Nottingham, of Macon,
will be connected with the music
department of Gordon Institute, be
ginning at once. She will move her
family to Barnesville immediately, and
will probably be ready to assume her
duties by next Monday. Mrs. Not
tingham is a gifted musician, she
comes of family of musicians, being a
sister of the lamented Prof. Gutten
berger, who once had charge of the
department in Gordon Institute.
Her election to the place is
eminently satisfactory, and will no
doubt contribute greatly toward this
important department of the institu
tion. Her election is also giatifying.
because it brings another pleasant and
elegant family to Barnesville, all of
whom will be most cordially welcom
ed by the citizens of the city and
community.
