VOL. 31 SUBSCRIPTION SI.OO
B EDGAR L ROGERS. E3
FALL ANNOUNCEMENT,
That the cotton has been greatly damaged
by recent and continued rains throughout the
state, no one can deny the present low prices.
It’s going to be hard to make ends meet.
In view of these facts, I have used extra
diligence in my purchases this season. Asa
result, I am prepared to shoA/ the largest and
best selected stock in Middle Ga., and AT
PRICES NO COMPETITOR WILL DARE
TOUCH. I did not visit the Eastern markets
this season, but remained at home and with
ampleand ready cash, accepted every bargain
offered.
Dress Goods.
! am the acknowledged leader in Dress Goods, as is
evidenced by the fact that I sell more than the balance of the
town. Every lady knows this, and they all go to Rogers’ for
their tine dresses.
Clothing.
1 still sell Strouse Bros. Clothing, acknowledged to be
the most up-to-date and best fitting clothing offered to the
trade. IMy prices this fall are right and you can buy them
without feeling the effect of the tariff.
Boots, Shoes and Hats.
My stock in these lines, as in every other, is complete.
Get mv prices before buying.
DOMESTICS.
1 never made a dollar on domestics in my life. You can
buy them the year round at factory prices.
It’s useless to attempt to enumerate everything 1 carry in
stock, as every man, woman and child in Middle Ga- knows
Ed Rogers, and knows that he carries everything and will not
be undersold by no living man. Come to see and I promise
to make your 4c cotton go further and buy more goods than
ever before. In fact, I will make it pan out 6c.

ABOUT TOWN-
o
Mr. J. J. Carson, of Concord, was
in Barnesville last week, looking for
a house in which to live, as he de
sired to move his family here. He
is a prominent citizen of the county
and should he move to Barnesville,
he will receive a cordial welcome
from the citizens.
Next Wednesday is the day for the
state election, and every democrat
should be certain to go to the polls
and vote. Don't stay away but go
out and vote.
A prominent gentleman of Barnes
ville remarked a few days ago that
twenty five nice residences could be
rented out to good citizens now, but
there are no dwellings in Barnesville
for lent. They are all occupied.
People are here almost every day
wanting to move here, but they can
not get houses in which to live.
New houses Lave been constantly
going up in the city for the past five
years.
Dr. Beauchamp will speak in the
city hall tomorrow (Friday) evening.
He should have a good audience
all voters are invited to be present.
Dr. Beauchamp is the democratic
nominee for the legislature and he
will be one of the leading membe.s
of that body.
Miss Mattie Elliott has returned
to Barnesville and opened up her
dress making establishment in the
front rooms over the Penny Racket
and she solicits the patronage of The
people of the city and community.
She is a fine dress maker and always
promises satisfaction to her custom
ers. She will do well in her work.
Quite a number of people will at
tend the Diamond Jubilee at Macon
on October n, 12 and 13. The
round trip from Barnesville will be
only sl.lO, which ife a very low rate.
•'l’he jubilee promises to be a great
success.
' Dr. J. M. Brittain had large con
gregations Sunday at the morning
and evening services. There was no
service at the Methodist church, and
many of the members attended the
Baptist church. Dr. Brittain
preached two very interesting ser
mons.
Farmers have been considerably
discouraged at the low price of cot
ton this season. It not only hurts
the farmers, but all other business
men. * It is a condition, not a theory,
which is upon the country and it
must be dealt with in the best way
possible, every one doing his best.
There is scarcely no sickness in
1 Barnesville and vicinity now. The
Pleata.it Dreamt.
It does not lie in the painter’s fancy to
imagine a prettier picture than that of a
young girl, with lips luscious with the
promise of love, half parted in the smiles
of happy dreamland. The mind of happy
maidenhood is a clear and polished mirror,
which, when the wits go wandering into the
ghostland of dreams, reflects the impres
sions of waking hours, [f those impres
sions are pleasant and painless and happy,
she will smile in her sleep. If the impres
sions are those of a suffering woman, tor
tured with the special ailments to which
the feminine organism is liable, the picture
is spoiled by the lines of suffering and de
spondency. Maladies of this nature unfit a
woman for joyous maidenhood and for ca
pable motherhood. They incapacitate her
to bear the burdens of life in any sphere
of action. Household, marital and social
duties alike are a burden to the woman who
is constantlv suffering from headaches,
backaches, (fragging sensations and weak
ening drains. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Pre
acription positively, completely, unfail
ingly cures troubles of this nature. It
imparts health, strength, vigor to the dis
tinctly womanly organs. It fits for care
free, healthy maidenhood, happy wifehood
and capable motherhood.
“I have a little stepdaughter who had Bt.
Vitus'* Dance which your medicine cured,”
writes Mr*. T. P Bose- of Ford Dinwiddic Cos.,
Va • “ I spent about twenty dollars for doctor's
bills and medicine, and it did not do the child
one cent's worth of good. We commenced giving
Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription and Golden
Medical Discovery’ and used three bottle* of
each which cost only sin dollars. Now the child
is running around every where and is just as
healthy as ever.”
health of the surrounding country is
good, for which the people should be
grateful. „
Miss Lula Whittle was in Atlanta
last week, attending the openings
there, getting everything new in mil
linery and dress lines for the J. C.
Collier Cos. She is quite popular
with the lady purchasers of this com
munity. In fact she has numerous
friends here and throughout the
county.
I'he show window of Messrs. J. H.
Bate & Cos. Monday contained a
beautiful display ot watches, there
being quite a number of fine watches
displayed. This firm has done well
since beginning business in Barnes
ville and it is a source of pleasure to
the people. The firm carries a beau
tiful stock of jewelry and silver and
glass novelties. In their line they
can supply almost any demand.
HUGULEy— HIGHTOWER
A BRILLIANT MARRIAGE.
There was solemnized Tuesday
evening at 8 o'clock at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hightower on
Thomaston street, one of the most
beautiful and most brilliant marriages
ever witnessed here. Under the
happiest conditions Miss Willi J.eon
ta Hightower was united in marriage
to Dr. G. Pope Hugeley, the cere
mony being most impressively per
formed by Rev. H. S Bradley, in the
presence of a large number of friends.
The marriage was certainly a beau
tiful one. The large, elegant home
was handsomely decorated with ferns,
palms, vines and other flowers, and
under the brilliant electric light, it
appeared to the best possible advan
tage and it was a scene of loveliness
in every particular.
Promptly at the hour appointed,
the groom was conducted into the
parlor by Mr. Reid J. Hunt, the best
man, followed by the bride with the
maid of honor. Miss l .ouise High
tower. The attendants were Messrs.
F. M. Stafford, Dr. C. H. Perdue,
Miss Emmie Matthews, Mrs. C. H.
Perdue, the little fairy girls were An
nie Clare Huguley, Willie Green
Pound, Martha ami Ruby Stafford.
The bride and groom stood under a
beautiful electric umbrella, specially
arranged for the occasion, while the
ceremony was performed.
While sweet strains of music filled
the home, and friends with sympa
thetic and loving hearts stood by to
witness, the two happy and highly
favored young people were made
husband and wife. The union is a
most promising one. Miss High
tower, the bride, is the lovely daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hightower.
She is one of Georgia’s fairest daugh
ters and is largely endowed with those
qualities and traits of character that
equips her for the companion of the
man who has won her.
Dr. Huguley is the son of Ex-
Mayor and Mrs. George E. Huguley,
and is one of the state’s most prom
ising young physicians. He is a
splendid gentleman, highly talented,
and is destined to be a man of large
usefulness and honor. Probably no
young couple ever began life under
more promising conditions. Scores
of friends here and elsewhere predict
the happiest possible life for them.
MANY HANDSOME PRESENTS.
The pepularity of the young peo
pie was attested by the many lovely
presents received. The presents
were beautiful and among them were
many valuable and costly ones.
They will ever he a source of pleas
ure during the married life of Mr.
and Mrs. Huguley.
THE BRIDAI. TRIP.
Dr. and Mrs. Huguley left imme
diately on their bridal trip. They
will go to New York and will take in
points of interest going and returning.
They will he away about two weeks
when they will return and take up
their residence in Uarnesville.
congratulations.
Dr. and Mrs. Huguley have re
ceived warmest sincerest congratula
tions of hosts of friends. The Ga
zette desires to join in wishing them
the greatest amount of happiness and
prosperity throughout life. May the
greatest and best of Friends, from
whom can come every good and ev
ery perfect gift, ever be with them
to bless their lives.
